Obama tells Medvedev he'll have 'more flexibility' after election

That would depend on how many seats the Democrats lose in the Senate and in the House. In 2010 they lost 63 in the House and 6 in the Senate. If they lose just 19 more in the House and 13 in the Senate, they will have a veto proof majority as well as the ability to impeach Obama if he gets too stupid.

IYO, do you think the Repubs can pull those numbers in both houses? If that were to happen it would sure make it more difficult for President Obama to pull off, if that is his plan, another nuclear trade-off with Putin.

No, the correct question you should be asking yourself is, "Do I actually get it, or am I giving a knee-jerk reaction without cause or historical understanding?"

You do realize that these conversations have occurred with all Presidents, right? If you want more contemporary examples, study up on the Cold War talks. Each President has to deal with elections or other domestic concerns interfering with potential options the President has, almost all of which are not harmful to your country and may in fact actually be in favor of your country.

You are asking way too much of people here to do that. But this is a good test of who has their head on straight. People who consider this a big deal are largely 1) Ignorant 2) Stupid 3) Partisan. People who don't give a **** about this generally 1) Educated about US politics 2) Educated about historical US politics 3) Sane.

uh huh, sure...

Putin knows he wouldn't get anywhere near what he wants if a Republican is elected (Yes even Romney is miles above Obama on national defense)

Name a single item Romney is above Obama on in national defense. Just one if you can.

Furthermore, you do realize that nothing we have can stop a Russian salvo no?

Want to guess how many interceptors we have? Want to guess how many ICBMs with multiple MRVs Russia has? Want to guess how many ICBMs with multiple MRVs with decoy systems Russia has?

We may has well just scrap the system now if we are planning to using it against Russia. The only way we can actually stop a Russian ICBM attack is to fill the skies with nuclear tipped interceptors and constantly fire them for months on end to ensure that nothing gets through.

A real president, and a real man for that matter, would do his job according to what's needed regardless of it being an election year or not.

Which means that no president since Lincoln has been a real President. The level of historical ignorance here is reaching Yahoo message boards level. That is frightening.

"Obama's Doublespeak on Russian Missile Defense and Israel"

"President Obama's recent open mic comments to President Medvedev of Russia are troubling, which explains why Obama and the White House have decided to make light of them. It seems that every time a microphone captures the president in unscripted remarks, he's saying something that goes against his own public pronouncements."

"There was the famous incident in November, 2011, when French President Nicolas Sarkozy, not knowing his microphone was hot, expressed his contempt for Prime Minister Netanyahu, calling him a liar, with President Obama jumping in to commiserate, lamenting the fact that he has to deal with Netanyahu even more than the French."

Could the Rabbi be right?

Benny is a liar though. He promised to stop the building of illegal settlements which was the key point in the peace deal with Fatah. Want to know how many more illegal settlements are being built now?

Who has their head on straight? Don't you mean people who agree with you (and who think no more deeply than either/or)?

It's possible to see this open-mic slip with humor, understanding both that stuff happens to everybody and that perhaps the comment was revealing and worthy of speculation.

That is a pretty partisan statement.

That is a pretty partisan statement.

You forgot arrogant and asinine.

Yes, the political process affects foreign nogotiations, but to signal foreign opposition (yes, Russia still opposes on many of our foreign policy goals) that he will negotiate differently after the election signals the other side that they can press for more concessions afterwards and that Obama will probably give in. Thats detrimental to US goals and aims. Any way you slice this was a bad mistake to be heard and it was a mistake on Obama's part to say it at all.

IMO, Prime Minister Netanyahu, is as honest as any other politician and maybe more than some. The two Presidents were caught acting like to school kids name calling and complaining about having to deal with PM Netanyahu. Smacks of something a little unsavory to me.

That is a pretty partisan statement.

Not at all. Bush Jr made some pretty funny comments when he thought the mic was off. I never gave him crap for that. Ever. HW wrote a whole article on the dangers of the open mic.

Stuff like this happens to all modern presidents. The worst **** is when people harp on things that are inherently obvious, such as what Obama said. Basically if you couldn't figure out that a 2nd term president has more flexibility, you need to go back to 5th grade civics class. As for Benny being a liar, well I can't expect most people here to actually understand the Middle East peace process and all its obstacles.

You forgot arrogant and asinine.

Good luck defending that.

Yes, the political process affects foreign nogotiations,

Correction. The political process is the foreign negotiation process.

but to signal foreign opposition (yes, Russia still opposes on many of our foreign policy goals) that he will negotiate differently after the election signals the other side that they can press for more concessions afterwards and that Obama will probably give in.

And this differs from the past 5 presidents how?

Thats detrimental to US goals and aims. Any way you slice this was a bad mistake to be heard and it was a mistake on Obama's part to say it at all.

You act like this is any different then Dubya, Clinton, HW or Reagan. It's not. And you know better.

You failed to address the point being made entirely.

And it's another entirely to go off saying that Obama will entirely capitulate. Obama essentially told Medevdev something he already knew. What is disturbing is that Medevdev probably knows more about US presidential realities then many hacks here.

Furthermore, anyone who actually understands missile defense knows that what we have could never stop a Russian attack. Hell, all they really need is 5 or 6 missiles with multiple MRVs and decoy balloons and we're basically screwed. Honestly, we SHOULD scrap the entire thing. If Iran or North Korea really want to hit us, they'd do it via panel van. A missile is the last intelligent method of attacking the US. It's a heck of a lot cheaper to build 5 nukes and deliver them by panel van then build one nuke and spend the rest on a missile that could get shot down by a patriot missile battery.

Obama's meaning was sooooo oooobvious!! He was telling Medvedev that after the election he would have time to enroll in yoga classes so he could become more flexible!

You failed to address the point being made entirely.

I don't know, nor do you know, that "Benny" is a liar. And knowing the number of settlements built and how that question/answers or relates to Obama and Medvedev talking about "flexibility", was a little deeper conversation than I'm up for. But if you see some sort of relationship, you can start another thread on that subject.

I, on the other hand was addressing the silliness of the 2 presidents, which is important to me, since 1 of them represents this country.

It isn't the part saying that Bush Jr made some pretty funny comments, yeah, sometimes he was a sp-ed. There are some great one liners by presidents from bothe parties when they think the mics are off. The part of your comment I thought was partisan is highlighted below.

You are asking way too much of people here to do that. But this is a good test of who has their head on straight. People who consider this a big deal are largely 1) Ignorant 2) Stupid 3) Partisan. Basically, if they don't think like you, then they are ignorant, stupid or partisan, but if they do think like you, all of a sudden they are educated and sane. Come on.

This is exactly what I expect out of the left. You are totally belittling everything we have worked for over 200 years. Might as well give New England back to Britain. OMG. Just kidding, I thought that was pretty funny Adam.

I don't know, nor do you know, that "Benny" is a liar.

Benny promised to stop the settlments. He has the power to do so as demonstrated by the dismantling of settlment early in the talks. That ended and settlements are springing up. Therefore Benny has lied. 1) He said he'd do it. 2) He has the power. 3) He refuses to use it. Therefore he has lied. If you think I'm wrong, show me.

Basically, if they don't think like you, then they are ignorant, stupid or partisan, but if they do think like you, all of a sudden they are educated and sane. Come on.

No, it's the fact that they can't figure out something a 5th grader can. Oh noes, Obama said he'd have more flexibility after reelection......like every single politicians has in their final term. Taking that to mean the crazy **** that people are doing now is a sign they stupid or partisan hacks.

It doesn't matter if a Republican said it. Political affiliation of the person making that mic comment does not change the political realities of final term politicians. The inability to figure out that a final term politician can do and say stuff that they normally wouldn't SHOULD be obvious to those with a semi-functioning brain. Going off about how Obama told Mededev something Mededev already knew as a sign Obama is weak is a sign you are ignorant, stupid or partisan.

If you can't figure out that a last term politician has more flexibility, you really shouldn't even be on this board, or even discussing politics at all regardless of how you lean.

This thread is about Russia and President Obama's "flexibility" comment, yes? Now I've had a couple of "don't do thats" so you're going to have to discuss the Middle East, on this thread, all by yourself, okay?

My point again. If someone doesn't think like you, it is partisan.

Question. If it was "nothing", this flexibility comment, then why do the "lean forward and speak softly" thingy? I don't know what President Obama's intentions were, but it would seem he could have said this on the record in front of the camers for all of us to hear, if it was a "nothing" comment.

Try judging people on their own merit rather than using the crutch of how bad someone else might be. Bush isn't in charge. Obama is in charge. Move on.

Please, the right still blames Clinton and goes back as far as Carter for Bush failures.
