Chaney was basically born with a bum ticker and has suffered from this all his life. Health is precious, never take it for grant it.

I wonder how many years it may have given a much younger & healthier person.
Do you have any concept of how the transplant system works?

In another thread I was asking for a reality check in regard to health and recovery for the elderly - so I'll feed it in here.

Honestly - he shouldn't have accepted the transplant. He should have said 'no'. He's 71. How much longer will he live? What will he do with his future? He'll live, what - 15 more years, maybe? IF he makes it past the initial recovery period?

How many more elligible people - mothers, fathers, teachers - are on transplant lists who could live for 30, 40 or 50 more years and have much more of a possitive impact on teh world and society and their families lives than Cheney?

We don't know how long he was on the waiting list for. Maybe he has waited for a very long time for this heart. To be honest though I think as far as healthcare goes, we do far more damage by spending tons of money via Medicaid so that many individuals can abuse the system to get their $400 skin creams and sex aids (like Viagra/birth control) at the expense of the state.

We don't have socialized healthcare, not even with Obamacare. What do you think your chances are if you are 70+ that your private insurer will cover the expense? Lots of luck Charley.

If they are ensured under a contract then their insurance by law has to cover it.

Many factors play into a heart transplant. There could have been a better match but if that person is 2 hours away the heart won't make it. So don't waste a heart IMHO

Viagra is not covered by medicaid.

Skin creams are hardly trivial, skin conditions can be very painful (as you'll know its where most of the nerves are) and its does cover your entire body also are far as birth control is concerned as distasteful as it sounds the state is making a net saving if it sponcers it.
