To look at what Human Rights Watch said look here (Syria: Armed Opposition Groups Committing Abuses | Human Rights Watch) and here (Open Letter to the Leaders of the Syrian Opposition | Human Rights Watch)Armed Syrian defectors took their uprising into the heart of a heavily guarded and wealthy district of Damascus on Monday, clashing with security forces in what activists and residents called the most intense fighting in such a strategic area since the protests against President Bashar al-Assad began a year ago.
But a human rights group offered a more complex vision of the insurgents on Tuesday, accusing them of a catalog of abuses including “kidnapping, detention and torture of security force members, government supporters and people identified as members of pro-government militias, called shabiha.”
Personally, I think that this is not surprising. The whole situation is chaotic. However, I will note that this only bolsters the ignored Arab League Observer Mission Report which stated that an “armed entity” exists and has been “involved in the killings of civilians and police as well as the conduct of terrorist acts, which in turn have contributed to triggering actions by government forces.” (http://www.columbia.edu/~hauben/Repo...er_Mission.pdf)
