Gunman kills four at French Jewish school

It's so sad ... like French Interior Minister Claude Gueant said: "We have reached the summit of barbarism." :(

Barbarism should be capitalized if it is a proper noun... Makes his whole statement sound ridiculous.

It's not new though. Humans have been killing children for some time now. Hell one of the Crusades essentially revolved around children going off to wage religious war. This isn't new. This is just an extremely ****ed up individual. And we've dealt with those type before.

I understand what you are saying Ikari, but we are supposed to be an enlighten and civilized society which has moved from the barbarism of The Dark Ages.
This sort of pointless random attacks that take place against defenseless and innocent people is regrettably becoming more and more common and we are becoming more and more desensitized to them, that's what's happening in my opinion.

your sarcasm in the face of the death of these 3 innocent kids, is not appreciated

Your attempt to make an apparent emotional connection isn't either... that is the point.

oh, its more than a mere emotional connection.

If they aren't blood relatives then you are making an emotional appeal by associating your self with them on a familial or religious connection as if that created a personal bond and that is utterly disingenuous and doesn't take their fate seriously since you are trying to attach yourself to them. Basically, you are trying to make this partially about you.

what's your point?

this is as things are developing.... nothing is for sure yet ...

From the Australian Article:

"The suspect's mother was brought to the scene. She was asked to make contact with her son, to reason with him, but she did not want to, saying she had little influence on him," Gueant said.

"This person has made trips to Afghanistan and Pakistan in the past ... and says he belongs to al-Qa'ida and says he wanted to avenge Palestinian children and to attack the French army," he added.

The mother and brother of the suspect have been detained by police, along with the brother's girlfriend.

"He was in the DCRI's sights, as were others, after the first two attacks," an official said, referring to France's domestic intelligence service, adding: "Then the criminal investigation police brought in crucial evidence."

This guy was tracked for a while by the police but not closely (it seems). Was this terrorism? It seems so. So who are the terrorists? Just the self-proclaimed shooter who says he's part of Al Qaeda and who shoots multiple people and then goes after a Jewish school killing children? Is it also his family who does not help to talk to him and "talk him down"? This brings up a larger question: We tend to be very literal when talking about terrorists and identify only those who carry out the acts of violence in the name of ... whatever. In Al Qaeda it's sometimes revenge (as in this case), other times it's a political statement about the U.S., or Israel, or whatever.... what about all those who helped the self proclaimed terrorist?

I'm not saying this happened in this case but hypothetically speaking.... parents who raise their children in radical Islam, teach them from the beginning that martyrdom and taking the lives of as many Jews or whomever, is God will. Those who feed them, give them money, give them shelter, give them aid and otherwise allow them to carry out their final and violent acts.... are these supporting characters any less terrorists than those who made them bomb? Than those who pull the trigger? I say no and therefore we need to recalibrate how many actual terrorists there are in our minds.

So should we go after parents and arrest them if they are teaching their children some "violent" religious material?

If such a thing happened in the U.S., yes they'd be arrested: Child endangerment and maybe a few other laws would apply, but that's not the point. The point is, what about those who fund them? What about those who supply them? What about those who knew who this guy was and did nothing.... they are innocent in these final acts?

Well... there are talks about an elite commando team launching an assault sooner or later if the monster doesn't give up, this is entering the second day as we speak.... they will give it some more time... they want him alive.Public street lighting was switched off in the Toulouse district where suspected serial killer Mohamed Merah is holed up...

three children died in gunfire and what they done ? who is a racially motivated crime

French law enforcement took him out around 10am GMT. Intense gunfire and explosions lasted almost a minute! Sarkosy has spoken stressing the unity and solidarity of the Republic, reminding everyone that "our Muslim compatriots had nothing to do with this killer", and stressing how they should not be stigmatised over one man's actions.

Suicides are rarely successful when throwing oneself from a ground(first)-floor window.
