    Jesus, man.

As a combat veteran, and one who volunteers and works with the Wounded Warrior Project, your partisan hackery outrage is noted. I can't think of a more appropriate place for this. And it was an appropriate response to hazlnut's post. The current story is he had a tbi, it was missed, lets say it was caught, the administration would be trying to make his families cost go up..... yup "thanks for your service, we need more of what little we pay you, but our uninized civillians don't"

Yes, I am a hack and you think this story is appropriate in a thread titled, "Official: U.S. soldier opened fire on Afghan civilians". Alright, buddy.

I suggest if you want to discuss this issue, you could start your own thread with a news source that isn't a commentary.

    *Edit:

And since you chose a commentary, you missed a half the story:
A White House statement says the current 20-year military retirement system is outdated and needs an overhaul, but it pledges that any change should not apply to those already retired or currently serving.
    Also:
Tricare pharmacy co-payments would increase to more closely match federal employee benefits under the Obama plan. A White House fact sheet says the changes would not apply to active-duty members, but would apply to all active-duty family members and all retirees, regardless of age.
So he is raising co-pays to the already "socialized" level that federal employees currently pay. What a dick.

I retorted to another posters commentary, agreeing with, and adding to that posters point. I am sorry you feel your god king Obama can do no wrong, but he can.

Brain injuries are a very serious thing, one that we have only scratched the surface in understanding and diagnosis. This man, apparently had a TBI, yet was cleared not only to return but his request for sniper school was accepted.... We missed the boat with this guy, However if we had sent him home, maybe he snap when he starts seeing his co-pay's for his family triples and kills some of those unionized civillians working on the base. Who knows.

They went off to fight a war for you, are you an abled bodied mail? why did you choose not to sign up and go to war? The least we can do for our warfighters is be vigilant on both diagnosing TBI's and not tripling thier families co-pays.

Unfortunately, I am not an able-bodied mail. Sadly I am but flesh and bones. That's a great argument, by the way, "if you want an opinion on this issue then you better have joined the military!" More classiness from you.

Yeah, a positive-thinking post that says we should do a better job taking care of our soldiers mental health.

Sounds horrible. That's a very sad situation, which is all the more reason for you to not take cheap shots in this thread and open a new one if you want to discuss the possible raising of co-pays for military family members.

Interesting link. Can you explain what a tbi is? Tx.

This health insurance premium increase is a kick in the ass -- but the end-resulting premium is still very cheap. What bothers me most about it is that, compared to other Federal health insurance premiums, it's probably higher. When are we going to overhaul the whole stinkin' mess?

    tramatic brain injury.

The real kick in the ass is that while the service members costs go up, the gs-3 sitting next to him does not.

that's not what I said, and you completley ignored:

"The least we can do for our warfighters is be vigilant on both diagnosing TBI's and not tripling thier families co-pays."

    Why so silent, panda?

Yeah, a positive-thinking post that says we should do a better job taking care of our soldiers mental health.

One would think one of those "positives" would be not tripleing co-pay rates

Maybe you should stop whining and report me or something..... This soldier had a TBI, was cleared, and sent back to war. It was a missed step on our part. If he was home, maybe he doesn't go get care when his co-pay triples, snapps, and opens fire at the chucky cheese you took your kids to that day....

like hazlnut says, let this be a teachable moment.

Re: Official: U.S. soldier opened fire on Afghan civilians

There is no evidence that the US troop that fired on the civilians was not given an order to do so from a superior, or even if he had not been given an order, had a legitimate military reason for killing them.

It's possible that one of the above was true, or that one is true and not the other, or the killings were purely random. We don't know. We don't have all the facts about this particular case, and sadly, we may never know the truth (since uncle sam has a fondness for obscuring it).

All that is known is that massacres are a commonplace occurrence in war--they are a statistical reality in any long-term combat situation, regardless of whether the massacres are done for military purposes or are random.

If you start a war, then be prepared to accept it.
