Senate rejects GOP measure to build oil pipeline

Senate rejects GOP measure to build oil pipeline - CNN.com

Washington (CNN) -- The Senate narrowly rejected a Republican-sponsored measure Thursday that would have bypassed the Obama administration's current objections to the Keystone XL pipeline and allowed construction on the controversial project to move forward immediately.
Fifty-six senators voted in favor of the amendment -- four short of the 60 required for approval. Eleven Democrats joined a unanimous Republican caucus in backing the plan.
Republican presidential front-runner Mitt Romney called the decision a "no-brainer."
"How in the world can you have a president who doesn't understand the importance of getting energy from our next-door neighbor?" he said.
Democratic opposition to the Republican measure was complicated by reports last week that former President Bill Clinton came out in favor of building the pipeline.
Clinton is for it....that's gotta hurt. This will be a major issue in the general election.

And Obama has got to stop lying about how "America only has 2 percent of the world's oil reserves, but we use more than 20 percent." That is so intentionally misleading. We have a much higher percentage of the world's supply, but we just don't drill for it. Plus, do we not pay for the oil we use? Does the world not gladly sell us this oil?

Meanwhile, Solyndra barely gets a second look with their gifted millions from Obama.

With the President actually having to lobby Senate Democrats not to support this, it was probably very very close to actually passing. Two Republicans didn't vote, so they were actually only 2 votes short.

So why is congress trying to legislate an oil pipeline into existence? Why is the usual process not good enough?

As long the oil pipeline company is being allowed to use eminent domain I don't really care how it gets stopped.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

    Cicero Marcus Tullius
