MO House bill would restrict vasectomies only to save lives

JEFFERSON CITY, MO (KCTV) - Some women in the Missouri House of Representatives want to limit when men can get vasectomies.

The proposal would only allow men to undergo the procedure to save their lives "or prevent substantial and irreversible physical impairment."
And I say "Why not?". If women are not allowed to have contraception, then why should men have it. Let's ALL go back to the Middle Ages together, men and women alike. Let's ALL join in on the insanity that is sweeping the nation. Why should only women have all the fun?

But, seriously, I think a great point is being made by these women.

This is getting ridiculous. Nobody but the absolutely insane are trying to take contraception away from women. The debate is whether or not birh control should be free and whether or not religious groups should be mandated to pay for birth control through insurance.

So tired of the fear mongering, hyperbolic bull**** and the people who continue to spread it.

    but that has been resolved
religious organizations with objections will not incur the cost of contraceptives
the controversy should have ended there
but it didn't. even after Obama let the air out of the GOP balloon

a women just stood in front of congress claiming that insurance companies should be obligated to include birth control. I hardly see the issue as settled.

    Completely.

I guess it's easier to take simplistic, inflammatory strawman positions than actually discuss the matter intelligently.

Whatever! What they are doing is not clever or relevant or comparable. I hope they all get voted out of office when their terms are up.

I think this was more of a jab at abortion law than contraceptive payments. The language is closer. The article writer seems to think it's about contraception, but I don't really see the link.

This topic interesting to me - Men wanting vasectomies and women wanting men to have them.

When it came up I didn't want my husband to get one: he still wants children - I don't. . . thus: I didn't want him to not be able to have more children if the worst thing happens to me and I die or something and he remarries (morbid? I thought it was respectful).

I also didn't want him to have to risk issues that can go along with vasectomies, as well. While there are many issues that women can deal with when geting a tubal: for me - It solved some of my issues, relieved my personal stress. Him getting a vasectomy would have done none of that so in those regards it seemed pointless. Men who've had them also have had sex-related problems and issues later on in life with their genetalia . . . not a common thing but too risky in my opinion.

So I'm not identifying with women like my sister who argued with her husband that she was tired of being the one being 'poked at by drs' and insisted he get a vasectomy.

Though I know none of this is the point of the women in the OP who are pushing a frivolous legislation all for the sake of 'making a point' - in respect to them, I find their waste of the legislative process to be a bit offensive. Though I get what they're trying to do here. Still - that's NOT the purpose of the legislative system.

We shouldn't be using our sexuality, sexual reproduction as a tool topic to smack eachother around with.

What are we? Ovary slinging ****s or something?

I'm never going to get a vasectomy anyways, and if it makes the pro-life argument more legit, I say hell yes, vote for this bill.

    More civil discourse I see.

When people are ACTUALLY pushing to ban birth control pills, let's talk about banning condoms. When people are talking about banning tubal ligation then let's talk about banning vasectomies.
