Even if the government lifted ever restriction on domestic drilling tomorrow, it wouldn't change the price of gas very much, and what little change there would be would come years down the road.

All the more reason to do it now. What effect would less supply have on gas prices?

There are no reserves of cheap oil 100x demand. If there were, the GOP would have drilled it during the years they were in control of the presidency and both houses of Congress.

If there were plenty of of oil in the US their would have been no need for the GOP to invade Iraq and change their oil laws.

So you wish to limit future generations freedom to satisfy your present personal greed?

You're talking about pennies a gallon -- like under five pennies. Obviously much of that would be offset by environmental damage.

    Hypotheticals and rhetoric are pointless.

It's obvious in the sense of probability and statistics. Oil drilling causes large and small environmental problems. Drastically increasing the amount of drilling will have a concomitant effect on the number of environmental problems.

And that is not even considering what the affects of increasing our oil usage (beyond just the drilling) would be for the environment.
