Racist? Texas high school apologizes for fans' 'USA!' chant after basketball game

Racism may be strong a term. How about "These students are COMPLETE ****ING MORONS who need a lesson in remedial geography." I weep for the educational system in Texas, if this is what it produces.
I can guarantee you that a good percentage of the Hispanic team salute the Mexican flag, not the US flag.

BTW, Hispanic isn't a race. It's an ethnicity. Hispanics are mostly white, with some having some Indian (Aztec) blood.

American Indians aren't a "race" either - they're Asian (Mongoloid). The only "races" are black, white, and asian.

Interpretation needs to have context. There were no implications of racism in any of my comments. YOU created that. In the OP, there were certainly implications of offense.

Here is your context. "You still seem to be ignoring context... not coincidentally." Further your support (in the form of a "likes") for someone who clearly opposed my idea that the actions were of a not racial nature supports the my interpretation. Indeed, you supported the poster's idea that this was a racially charged incident in another one of that DBer's post. There is plenty of context here Captain.

The three posts of yours that I reposted were NOT you asking questions. They were you making statements. You're backtracking.

I am not backpedaling anything. If you look at the way I post, generally it is well researched and seeking to find an answer or more facts. Regardless whether the form is a question or a statement...

The following (from this thread) is an example of the way I look for answers or more facts: "Should you further wish to discuss the issues I would enjoy your thoughts and perspective." Interpret this anyway you wish, this is one type of dialog I use when I advocate a position or wish to draw further thought from someone I am discussing an issue with. I use declaratory statements as well.

What technique do you use?

"Not coincidentally" is about how your posts had consistently ignored context. This accentuated that fact. Further, my "likes" are irrelevant. I "like" posts for many different reasons. However, I clearly said, earlier in the thread, that what occurred was offensive and rude, but by strict definition, NOT racism. Therefore, I could not have accused you of racism. Perhaps you might have asked, rather than making an assumption on such flimsy evidence.

I posted your comments from earlier in the thread. You made definitive and declaratory statements.

This comment was not in any of the posts that I quoted. Declaratory statements make declarations. They don't look for more facts or answers. They declare things.

Depends on the thread and topic.

Sorry that "Gringos" have contributed more to to this country as a whole than "beaners" have.

What? Have you forgotted the Cisco Kid? Aye Cisco! Aye Poncho!

What about Cheech and Chong?

What are you thinking?

Now there is also a claim that the other, predominately Hispanic team, was chanting "Alamo Whites" .... so it seems OK to chant the racist “ALAMO WHITES” against the dominant white Alamo Heights, high school basketball team while they were playing.....to apparently make fun of the other team being predominantly white!

The students who chanted “ALAMO WHITES” were clearly ACTING in a racist manner.

But then the absurd politically correct crowd don't care about that. That's not a good news story.

care to substantiate that claim?

How long did you have to listen to Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck to get that out of the story? Jesus.

Depends on the thread and topic.

I take the totality of the thread into consideration, by doing so content, context, and a record of what was represented can be used in a discussion, if necessary.

You have selected some of my statements and ignored others for reasons I cannot fathom. Thank you for inviting me to this discussion, I have answered your questions, rebutted your presumptions and presented evidence which contradicts several positions you have represented.

Your “like” posts are very relevant as far as I am concerned. Precedent was set when Global Moderator Serenity treated my “like” as a serious position when she stated, “i have a problem with which you "liked".”

Therefore you appear to have two opposing positions, it seems:

1. You stated that, “[You have] already said in this thread that what occurred was not racism.”

2. By proxy supported the idea that the statement was racially based. You “Liked” and supported such views. The application of the “Serenity Like Standard” is applied here as a "matter of course".

I have exercised the degree of respect, courtesy and tolerance which I would have expected and thank you once again for your interest in my views. I look forward to discussing other issues and topics with you in the future.

Warmest regards,

Connery

That's your opinion! :)

In a free country people can say and chant whatever they wish! ;)

I don't see anyone being hanged. They can chant USA at a Hispanic-American team if they want... but that doesn't mean they aren't assholes. They are.

That statement is highly disputable.

To be or not to be an asshole is in the mind of the beholder. :)

What about a few months earlier when, in the same situation, the students chanted "USA" and "Arizona" (the state with the infamous law) at the other school? Is that far enough?

I don't know that case I'm sorry.

We are talking about this particular case.

Here is it:

It's the exact same situation, except they added in "Arizona".

Texas School Says 'USA' Chant Was Racist
Price said it's not the first time their students have been victims of insensitive chants. Last year students at another school chanted "USA, USA" and "Arizona." It happened during the national discussion on Arizona's controversial immigration bill.

I agree. I think anyone who can't figure out why these chants are inappropriate should probably stay out of public as much as possible because they clearly have no social skills.

Sure, sure ;)

As they say, racism is usually characterized by ignorance.

Of course they won't report this - lol

Because liberals think that minorities are poor, weak, defenseless, and beneath them rather than peers - so when some racist Latinos chant "Alamo Whites", it's no big deal, but when the whites chant "USA! USA!" back at them, it's an atrocity - because Latinos are just a poor, persecuted, defenseless minority who can't take the "racism" that they so happily dish out.

WTF are you talking about? Here's a tip for you:

Try making sense when you post!

His post makes sense. I was in NYC a few years ago and went to a club that a friend knew they were having a dance contest in there. They had the dance crews going it at. Really fun to watch. The final 2 groups that went at it was a group of black kids and a group of puerto ricans. The PR group won, and the crowd, or part of the crowd was getting pretty excited for them and the phrase Boriqua over and over. In case you don't know it means Puerto Rico or puerto rican or something like that. The other group of kids, or any of the other losers or anyone else in that crowd didnt start getting huffy and crying because of them chanting Boriqua. Certainly didn't make the news, and there damn sure weren't a ton of liberals there telling how wrong it was to have pride in the country many of them were from.

So I want to ask now, do you think those people in the crowd were being racist?

That has to be the worst comparison to this situation ever.

How so? Please explain. So its okay for Puerto Ricans to have pride, but Americans shouldn't?

You are absolutely right muciti, I agree with you totally, don't ask for anything.... if people want to live in ignorance let them.
