An Obama administration official confirmed on Friday that the White House had called Barnard to offer the president as the commencement speaker.

A month ago, Barnard College announced that Jill Abramson, the executive editor of The New York Times, would be its graduation speaker, but those plans changed with the call from the White House. Ms. Spar said that Ms. Abramson had said she would be happy to speak at Barnard in the future.

The college’s last three commencement speakers were Sheryl Sandberg of Facebook, the actress Meryl Streep and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

There is so many things wrong here. The president usurping a college graduation to make a political campaign speech. A man pushing a woman to the side. Shouldnt women be upset at this? Shouldnt voters be upset at the abuse of position?

Why? It's the colleges decision to allow or disallow Obama to speak there. Or do you not believe in freedom anymore?

Ad hominem.

It's ok, I understand your scared.

Truth is, you just like to bitch about Obama. It's not Obama's fault the college made the decision to allow him to speak. When you graduate high school, you will learn this.

Baiting, how....normal for you.

I would think that his speech would be pretty apolitical, but its not something Ive come to expect from this President.

It seems pretty obvious that Obama specifically wants to take advatage of the gender war being waged on republicans by giving a speech which will no doubt comdemn anyone he claims doesnt support 'womens health issues' (ie republicans).

There is no gender war and you have no clue as to what his speech will be. My guess will be it will be a normal graduation speech.

So, willing to wager on what his speech will be. I got the money to back it up my guess, do you?

Im not interested in your personal games. Im here to debate. As to the substance of your post, its obvious the democrats are pursuing a gender war, in addition to race and class wars. Since Obamas contraception mandate, and republicans oppostion to it, numerous democrat leaders have made speeches pitting men against women, and even women against 'old white men', combining race and gender.

What college wouldn't jump at the chance to have the president of the United States speak at their commencement?

and why wouldn't the president want a chance to make yet another speech with an election coming up?

It sounds like a win win for both the college and the POTUS to me.

Like I said before I'm willing to back up my guesses. You aren't. You aren't here to debate you are just hear to slam Obama on anything and everything, nothing more. That isn't debate.

Again, this isn't gender war no matter how many times you cry it is. What it is, however, is conservatives and GOP fanatics getting their asses handed to them.

This whole thing is a non-issue with the college. The fact you are trying to drum up some rhetoric is not debate.

Who cares.. Sweet Obama is speaking at a graduation cermony. Hell that would be pretty coo i guess

Why did you respond to this thread?

Then I guess Ill just ignore you since you arent interested in the topic.

Fee free to. I'll continue to point out that there is no gender war by this. This is just a president that is speaking at a graduation.

The absurdness is claiming it is anything else.

Well, i wont ignore you if you want to discuss the topic. However, if youre simply going to yell 'thats absured' rather than make a substantial response, then i have nothing to rebutt. Im just prohibited from responding to your personal attacks by the rules.

Saying your comments are absurd is not a personal attack, feel free to report it and you'll see for yourself.

It's absurd to think a president is engaging in gender war simply because a college chose to bump a female speaker for the president.

If I were the college, I'd bump just about anyone to have the president (any U.S. president, yes that means Bush whom I don't like) speak at the graduation.

anything to bash Obama, huh?

It's pretty common for a President to do one. Bush spoke at Furman University's commencement in 2008, while he was in office

Those are just the easy ones, I'm sure there are others over the 8 years he was President. (I'm giving him a pass for West Point in '02, since that's military). I would think that anything a sitting President has to say is pretty much political. If it isn't intended as such, it becomes such quickly. Heck, people tried to make news out of the fact that Bush 41 didn't care for broccoli. ('I'm President,' So No More Broccoli! - NYTimes.com).

Then that reinforces my point. If anything the President has to say is pretty much political, then this speech by Obama will likewise be political. Given he invited himself to speak, bumping a notable woman who had already been invited, and chose specifically a womens college during a time that he is involved in womens issues. It all adds up to using the event to further his political agenda. IMO, Presidents should not abuse their position in this manner.

The president isn't abusing ANYTHING. The college CHOSE to invite him. He personally didn't bump ANYONE. The college did and the woman even said that was ok, she would speak another time.

You are making a mountain out of a molehill on this one.

I did not claim that particular statement yours was a personal attack, but rather the lack of supporting information left no room for discussion. Nor did I claim that the gender war being waged by democrats was evidenced "simply because a college chose to bump a female speaker for the president."
