Sorry, but most kids that take guns to school and wind up killing other students, are victims of being bullied because parents are oblivious and teachers can't be bothered.
Yes. It seems that is what happened in this case based on what I have read. This kid was an outcast and was bullied. I also read that the school was told about his tweets and ignored it. Shame on the school system for failing to take those tweets serious. So tragic

I am not saying I approve of what this teen did but it is clear adults failed him and so did his fellowclass mates if they were bullying him.

Sure, I understand the visceral, first-gut-reaction thing.... I do it too sometimes.... I'm just saying that we don't know much of anything at this point.
From what I heard on news reports he was bullied, but that's the extent. No specific bullying behaviors were cited so the severity of the abuses he suffered is possibly unknown at this point.

There were others before Columbine, that's just the one that people really remember. There was a nasty one in 1997 in Pearl Mississippi and many prior went unnoticed by the national media because they weren't multiple shootings. Columbine was just the worst because it was premeditated and involved two really sick little bastards, bombs, and a very high casualty count.

Heck, the way things are these days, being bullied may simply mean that other kids said he looked funny. If bullying were really the problem, we would have had at least a shooting per day when I was in high school.

Any moral teaching will do. If nothing else the nuclear family is at best a novelty these days. My folks would watch programming with me and explain that the person "killed" during the show was an actor and they were okay, but it doesn't work that way in the real world. We went from the family eating dinner together, working together, playing sports together to families where a kid is alone in a room for hours with suspect entertainment and almost no parental involvement.

As a parent, I find this terribly useful.

It is fear parenting and-to me-not a healthy way to parent. There is also guilt involved when raising a child this way as in if they do something wrong Sky Papa will be pissed. Not to mention the fear of going straight to burn in hell forever and ever. Yep. That sure may work in some cases but think of the worry and fear that child must live with always worried god is watching their every move. This can backfire too and make a kid run away from Christian faith as soon as they are old enough to start thinking for themselves and questioning stuff. Which is healthy. Just my thoughts and no disrespect.

Junior high and high school were pure hell for me, to this day I haven't killed anyone. When I got to college it was a new ballgame and they were terriffic years, kids need to understand that things don't stay the same, they have choices, and life can get better given time if you'll let it.

They also need to understand that kids who are bullies are really just miserable kids who are envious, otherwise, they wouldn't have a need to make someone else miserable. When I was a kid, there were plenty of bullies, but we pretty much just ignored their sorry asses. If you go through life taking everything to heart, you'll never find any peace or happiness.
