On the contrary, I've seen enough of posts from both of you to draw an accurate conclusion, Thunder. You're on record, after all, wanting to ban all handguns.

I don't have to fabricate anything, your words speak for themselves. On the other hand, if you have any evidence that I engage in unsafe or illegal behavior with firearms, I'd love to see it.

Back on topic, in this case, Mom had no business having a gun in the first place. If criminals didn't behave like ...well... criminals, then this incident would not even be up for discussion (unless you're going to now claim that "crooked gundealers" would have sold the 9 year old a gun.)

And you REALLY believe putting him away for 9 years is helpful...to anyone? Oh...and BTW...if you think 9 years in a mental facility 'helps' anyone or anything you are sadly mistaken. At best they make him a chemical zombie for the duration.
Even back at the age of 9 or younger, I knew it would be wrong and INSANE to bring a gun to school. Whether he meant to for show and tell or to shoot someone is irrelevant. He blengs in a mental institute till the age of 18. When he's 18, he's entitled to a review.

That hasn't been established. all that is know is that he had not taken it out of his backback.

It's odd to me how many people in this thread think the kid is totally harmless and it's the mother who should be in jail.
I don't recall anyone suggesting he's harmless. Although most indications suggest he may well be. Are you suggesting the Mother shouldn't be held responsible for leaving a loaded gun where a child could get ahold of it? Really?

Are we forgetting that children have, in fact, committed crimes and killed others? How do we know he wouldn't have done that later if the gun hadn't gone off?
We don't know that. But we also don't know if he was just taking it with him because he planned to run away. Seriously, the crimes of other children, especially murder do happen, but they are exceedingly rare.

Obviously the parents are irresponsible, but I still have a lot of questions concerning the kid.
So throw him in jail until he turns 18. That will fix him. argh.

Try Google search. I can't be bothered to explain the big words to you, Thunder. You've turned this thread into a personal attack as you always do when someone calls you on your crap.

There are plenty of ways to render a defensive firearm secure without bolting a lock through the trigger. Sorry.

The way that you clipped out the body of my message and choose to attack one sentence was quite artful though.
That dumbass remark was the comment that got the reaction. I specifically pointed that out. Funny how you left that out when you acted butthurt. Hypocrisy knows no bounds with you it appears.

The salient point was, whether it is a trigger lock, a safe or some other method of securing that gun, it didn't happen. To suggest that a trigger lock is useless is typical NRA nonsense. Had one been used this girl would never have been shot. But hey, it is still useless.

trigger locks are simple common sense. they prevent kids or thieves from using your gun.
