Afghans Protest Alleged Koran Desecration

The mistake has been admitted to that had been established the moment the US became aware of the situation. More, measures are being taken to prevent other such mistakes.

Good for them. This is exactly what they should do.

The mistake was clearly unintentional. No one purposely set out to offend any Islam, Military leader or common person; to suggest as much is to inject contrivances in facts presented.

Outside of how we treat the soldiers, this really doesn't matter. So,while I would not attach or assign any harsh punishments, I would reenforce the importance of avoiding this in the future.

Re: Afghans vent fury over Koran burning, U.S. apologizes

Friggin Muslims need to grow the **** up. Seriously!

You should have seen the reaction here when someone tore up and bible in Class. No, we didn't have riots, but the class got quite angry and verbal.

Shame on you! We can ****in pop a blood vessel if someone dares to display a nativity in this country, but you have to be very understanding and sensitive to the Muslims!!! Dont you know how important their culture and faith is to them???

Ooooooooh! "angry", and, "verbal"! Holy crap!!

How many people died when Christ on The Cross, in a bucket of piss was displayed as art? What do you think the response would have been had that been a picture of Muhammed? Or, a Koran?

Gimme' a break, dude! You got as much growing up to do as the Muslim community does.

A very different environment, but without supervision, someone could have gotten hurt.

We're only slightly better when it comes to over-reacting.

No where did I say that? Did anyone? Or is this more hyperbolic strawman stuff?

Ooooooooh, yeah! Right on the edge of growing out of control, huh???

Whatever, my man.

You miss the point. Artifacts and symbols matter, even to us.

I'll be the honest guy on here. Who friggin cares? We're outta there in two years, we can't win it the way we should because we're fighting with one hand tied behind our back, and they don't want us there anyway. This isn't Iraq. Most Iraqi's actually wanted us there and liked a lot of what we did for them. Afghani's could care less, so why should we? The COIN thing everyone on here claims to know about doesn't work over there. What we're doing over there isn't even COIN! I stopped caring about Afghanistan when I left there. I still care about Iraq, they want to be better. Afghanistan can become nuclear fodder for Iran for all I care.

On top of your continued trend to regurgitate any and every point as if were straight from "The Liberals Handbook", you also assume life is 'all about you'. tell me there arent a significant number of posts in this thread, as well as the evil soldiers pissing on dead mulsims thread, and hell...lets just say EVERY thread involving mulsims where people arent lining up to trip over themselves to defend their delicate sensitivities, or to rush to defend 'the faithful' whenever someone is slaughtered in the name of 'honor'...cuz really really guys...its not all of them...

And while my comment to apdst wasnt ABOUT you...hell...you are doing the same thing. "Look how bad WE overreact. OK...sure...no one is killing people when Christianity is assaulted..but still...its the same thing..." Yeah...dood...its PRECISELY the same thing.

True, but most of us aren't going to start burning **** down and killing people over it.

I would say that I'm amazed that you don't see the difference...but...I'm not. I mean, really; I'm not all that surprised. :rofl

I've never seen a liberals handbook. Could you provide one so I know what it is?

I tell you what I think. I think it's lazy, a cheat, to try to skip what is being said and throw such a hyperbolic strawman as you just did, be it about me or anyone. Again, I asked has anyone done this.

And no, you do the same thing with my argument, misrepresenting what it is. Mine is merely a pragmatic one. It was a mistake. It works against their mission. It is proper to point this out.

I know it is hard to actually listen to and understand an argument. Much easier to throw out BS. I understand. But do realize you will be called on it from time to time.

Which is exactly what is happening to you, sir.

To me? yes, that is what I said. Notice Vance had nothing to say on the topic.

I understand your sentiment, but really, when you invade a country, are not really fighting their army, but their people, your the one whose made the mistake. Much like with VN, while you can make a leader surrender, or an army quit, a people tends to resist much longer. Democracies are not designed to be able to occupy long term.

As for Iraq, well, I don't really see the difference you do. But what happens to both will and always has depended on what they do, not us.

Re: Afghans vent fury over Koran burning, U.S. apologizes

2 U.S. troops killed in Koran backlash - CBS News

Two U.S. troops have been shot to death and four more wounded by an Afghan solider who turned his gun on his allies in apparent anger over the burning of Korans at a U.S. military base in Afghanistan, an Afghan official tells CBS News.

A statement from the International Security Assistance Force - Afghanistan, the international coalition in the country, confirmed that two troops were killed in Eastern Afghanistan on Thursday by "an individual wearing an Afghan National Army uniform."

ISAF does not typically give the nationality of casualties until family members have been notified, but the CBS News source in the Afghan government said those killed and injured in the attack in the eastern Ningarhar province, along the border with Pakistan, were Americans.

Damn. :(

Re: Afghans vent fury over Koran burning, U.S. apologizes

The ironic thing about all of this is that burning it is one of two Islamically accepted methods to dispose of holy scripture, like Qurans that are no longer usable with torn up pages or if they are edited etc, the other acceptable method being burying them.

Depends on who is burning or burying them.

Re: Afghans vent fury over Koran burning, U.S. apologizes

This is what I was afraid of. It was a ****-up that cost lives.

No, it's just a prime example of the level of people we're dealing with. Iran is about to kill a man (again) for converting to Christianity, and these yahoos are killing people over burning paper.

You can't teach rhythm or class, and you can't coax these people into civilization.
