AUSTAN GOOLSBEE: I think the world vests too much power, certainly in the president, probably in Washington in general for its influence on the economy, because most all of the economy has nothing to do with the government.

Not saying they shoulda done it, but i don't think they did it just to piss people off.
You're likely right. Just a bad move in any case.

Sure I do, but, this isolated event and 9/11 makes no sense to me. There were many reasons for those targets and several attempts prior to 9/11.

my point being that if the West continues to underestimate the importance of the relgion of Isam and tries to down play it and westernize it then we invite attacks like 9/11

The west has not underestimated the importance of Islam by any means. For example, Islam investment banking has been implemented in the financial markets, there are Islam personal and commercial banks in Manhattan, for example. Arab Banking Corporation, 600 Third Avenue, 27th Floor, New York, NY 10016-1901
Devon Bank has transformed itself into a specialist in the kind of no-interest Islamic financing the customer was seeking. Islamic financing now accounts for more than 75% of the bank's mortgage portfolio, and Devon has made mortgages compliant with Islam's sharia law in 36 U.S. states, Loundy says.

Devon Bank, responding to local customers in a neighborhood filled with Pakistani and Middle Eastern immigrants, stumbled onto something big: Islamic finance is booming worldwide, fueled by the windfall from sky-high oil prices and a return to a more strict interpretation of the holy Quran across the Islamic world. Once Devon Bank introduced sharia-compliant mortgages and other loans, "People started coming out of the woodwork," Loundy says.

In a report last month, credit-rating agency Moody's Investors Service said that the global Islamic finance market has grown about 15% in each of the past three years and is now worth about $700 billion worldwide. The heavyweights of global finance have taken notice: Citigroup, HSBC, Deutsche Bank and others have affiliates devoted to Islamic finance.

The soldiers that go their are fighting the taliban and al qaeda and are supposed to be setting a legacy of western democracy that will last after we are gone and will hopefully stop history repeating itself. The russians bombed the crap out of the afghan people and not only lost the war but started a decade of military regime under the taliban, to simply just bomb the locals as your suggesting not onlt spits on the memory of the solderis that died in Afghan it also shows that you (mya) learned nothing from that attacks of 9/11 and alsmost welcome such attacks again.

Again.... you are walking on eggshells .... you are not going to win a war that way.

Go to the classroom and learn all you want...but don't go to war then , war is total obliteration .... you are in an attack mode...no time for niceties.

Well.... that is, if you want to win that war.... if not.... then be politically correct and all that rubbish.

have to ask but have you been to war?

p.s war is not always total obliteration, you seem to be a little naive.

Truth. Terrorists gain recruits partly by claiming the West is anti-Islamic. This isn't true, but when Western bombs are falling in Islamic countries, what should a farmer's son believe? So one of the most important objectives in Afghanistan is proving the West is NOT anti-Islamic. That Democracy and Islam can exist hand in hand and in peace. But when Westerners burn Qur'ans, it contradicts what the West is trying to say. It threatens a primary mission goal.
