Einstein, "science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind."
The fact of the matter is that we do not have enough oil to last us forever. The US government invests in green energy due to the fact that people themselves won't do it alone as there is too much risk, thus in order to create a base for green energy, the government must become involved. This has occurred in the past, but rather through tariffs. For example, the US became a world power by protecting its domestic industries via tariffs.
"Growing imports have forced many domestic industries to reduce output and lay off workers. On a number of occasions, the United States has provided trade protection to such industries. These restraints on imports are intended to provide domestic firms with the time and the resources to compete more effectively with foreign producers." (Has Trade Protection Revitalized Domestic Industries?)
Buchanan on the history of U.S. protectionism: "Behind a tariff wall built by Washington, Hamilton, Clay, Lincoln, and the Republican presidents who followed, the United States had gone from an agrarian coastal republic to become the greatest industrial power the world had ever seen — in a single century. Such was the success of the policy called protectionism that is so disparaged today." (The Truth about Trade in History | Bruce Bartlett | Cato Institute: Commentary)
Green energy, on some scale is a must due to the fact that oil is running out (THE PEAK OF WORLD OIL PRODUCTION) (http://cta.ornl.gov/cta/Publications...il_TRB1880.pdf) (Oil production and consumption: Running dry | The Economist) (Is our luck running out on oil supplies? - CSMonitor.com). Thus, if we are to keep us this standard of living that we have, we will need a new source of energy.
"And in the end, we were all just humans, drunk on the idea that love, only love, could heal our brokenness."
We should just invade an oil-rich country! That'll surely lower the price of oil!
"Human kindness has never weakened the stamina or softened the fiber of a free people. A nation does not have to be cruel to be tough."
