I had it once. At a Chinese restaurant in Germany in 1984. It kinda tasted like chicken (i know, the old "tasted like chicken" comparison). It was ok. Nothing to write home about. Never had the desire to seek it out since, and only see it offered rarely.

Personally, if I'm having Chinese soup, I'd rather have a good hot & sour soup or war wonton soup.

No. So what's the issue? These people get a voice because the individuals they attack roll over and apologize for the action. I say screw em. Do your thing and get on with your life.
I would rather he or his people respond with something like, "The President didn't order the soup. Is there supposed to be a point behind your rantings?"

But, that wouldn't be dignified for a President, I'm sure.

I'm not an Obama Fan, either, but at the same time I think it's uncool to blame a person for something they didn't do.

Are you aware that most of the shark you eat is farmed, right? Sharks have to be processed properly or there will be a strong taste of ammonia. Also, sharks contain a large amount of mercury, especially the bigger older ones. There's a reason why the meat regularly gets tossed back.

Not according to this shark rescue site. You might be thinking of the shark catfishes, which are not sharks.

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

I saw some show once where Japanese fishermen were catching sharks, cutting the fin off and throwing them back in the ocean, it was the most disgusting thing I had seen since a different show I saw where Japanese once again where loading live dolphins onto trucks like cord wood. If James is correct though and fins in this country come from sharks that are entirely used I have no problem with eating them, why waste anything. Obama is off the hook.

    It's soup.

Not only is it soup, but it's delicious soup.

Leave it to political hacks in that link in the OP to make a political issue out of it.

I still won't eat it. The overall devastation it's putting on shark population isn't something supportable. If it's true that the fins used in shark fin soup here in America have taken all the shark for consumption; that's a bit better IMO. But still, I don't like the generalized practices surrounding it and I won't eat it.

China has large shark finning operations that are similar. Catch the shark, cut off the fins, throw the body back into the water, move on. I find it rather disgusting myself.

"Rather disgusting"? I find it absolutely appalling and would like to cut the fisherman's arms off and throw them overboard. It is our responsibility as humans to act humane.

    Agreed.

    Actually, it's a two-fer.

I hate both wasting food and animal cruelty.

I used to work in a seafood restaurant. We got our shark from a farm. It can be done. I am not talking about great whites here... some sharks are pretty small and can be farmed successfully.

Your website link does mention that a small percentage of sharks are harvested for meat. So why do these finners not take the whole carcass? As I wrote previously, shark contains a lot of mercury. Second, the meat, unless processed properly will reek of urine. Some cultures relish that delicious ammonia taste but most don't.
No men are anywhere, and Im allowed to go in, because Im the owner of the pageant and therefore Im inspecting it, Trump said... Is everyone OK? You know, theyre standing there with no clothes. Is everybody OK? And you see these incredible looking women, and so I sort of get away with things like that.
