It sickens me how we don't support these women who are doing their best and then when they fail in some way we wonder why. Where is the mental health parity? There are long waiting lists for seeing mental health professionals, prescriptions are ridiculously costly, and we still stigmatize by thinking people with mental illnesses are more violent than the general population and do not have worthwhile contributions to society.

That said, yes we did see a recent incident with a man killing his boys, but who do you remember more Susan Smith or Jerry William Jones, Andrea Yates or Charles Rothenberg?
I Remember Scott Peterson more than all those.

It should be equal. My point is that women are crucified as being more evil for doing the same thing men do. It is equally horrifying. It is the "boys will be boys" mentality. When men commit a crime it is not surprising to people. It just seems that when women kill it is more sensationalized.

I'm sorry, I'm on a rant this evening.

When they grabbed up my second amendment I sat still and bit my tongue because, truth be told, Iím allergic to guns. But here we are, you with your cold hard fingers wrapped around the neck of my first amendment and Iíve got to shout as loud as I can, because if I donít, before you know it, you wonít let me say nothing at all"

He was so "guy next door". Their child would have been beautiful, I can't fathom what drove him or what he was feeling when he did it, where does that anger / unfeeling come from?

He was an asshole. No soul. Actually, I think he got the warped genes from his mother.

I think you just perceive women as women being portrayed as more evil. For example I percieve the exact opposite. I see people rushing to always excuse female killers. Yates had many defenders saying she was ill she had post pardem. It was the husbands fault.
Or the woman who was executed here in Tx. Many thought we shouldn't execute her because she was a woman. We execute men all the time.

Perhaps the truth is in the middle?

Re: Another sicko drowns her kid

The one year old daughter makes me wonder if this is a case of post-partum depression that went awry. Despite the mythology that women are meant to raise children, many are just not prepared for the realities of motherhood and mental illness takes hold when they are confronted with it. The fact that she isolated herself makes me even more suspicious, because that is a classic sign of post-partum depression. Mothers who can't handle it won't confide in others because they are ashamed that they cannot fulfill their "natural role" in society - or the dream of motherhood did not turn out to be as they planned.

I agree the murder is horrible... but saying she should be tossed to the wolves is another story. If mental illness is a factor, then it's not entirely her fault.

There is still sexism in reguards to child abuse. We have came a long way in reguards to womens rights but some still look at things as if the mother should be the main caregiver in reguards to everything and that men are just out there working and have no clue. Of course this is not the case but that is a how a lot of our society still looks at these kinds of things It is sad, wrong and it pisses me off.

If she did then hopefully she is found guilty and sentenced to death or life in prison without parole.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"
