Start with the facts. It ain't billions.. its hardly millions.
It has a per capita GDP higher than Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, Turkey, Egypt, Oman and about half of the EU. It is a rich country, but with crippling social inequality. Therein lies the reason for the unrest.

    Oil - production: 46,430 bbl/day (2010 est.)

Bahrain's success is based in their financial sector, not in oil.. and that talent is not coming from the Shia in the underclass.

"In Bahrain, petroleum production and processing account for about 60% of export receipts, 60% of government revenues, and 30% of GDP."

Any nation as small and as rich as Bahrain only needs actually to have an 'underclass' if it decides to have one. Rampant social inequality is a policy decision of the ruling class.

Wiki is wrong.. 46,000 barrels day is a tiny production.

Oil revenue.. small at it is ... goes to run the government and pay for various social programs.

Saudi Arabia has periodically bailed them out for decades..

The Shia underclass want free housing and jobs they are NOT qualified for.

This Shia "underclass" has been showing signs of unrest since 2008 and if the Sunni government doesn't do something about the rampant discrimination the Shia majority has been putting up with for too long, the unrest is only going to get worse.

Oh piffle.. they have shown unrest since 1950..

While most Shia are not nuts.. the same hysterics will always be dissatisfied... and staging riots and strikes.

This isn't about "democracy"... its about dominance and freeloading.

All I'm saying is that when you keep a majority pinned down for too long, eventually you're gonna face a ****storm.
