Top House Republican vows legislation to overturn Obama rule mandating birth control

Top House Republican vows legislation to overturn Obama rule mandating birth control coverage | The Ticket - Yahoo! News

From the Republican presidential candidates to top GOP lawmakers in Washington, party leaders are engaging in a full-court press against the Obama Administration's decision to force employers affiliated with religious groups to offer health care insurance plans to workers that cover birth control free of charge, even if the action contradicts the employer's religious beliefs.

In a rare move for someone in his office, House Speaker John Boehner, Republican of Ohio, took to the floor of the chamber on Wednesday to discuss a legislative plan to overturn the decision. Calling the rule "an unambiguous attack" on faith-based groups, Boehner said the House would begin work on a bill immediately.

"If the president does not reverse the department's attack on religious freedom, then the Congress, acting on behalf of the American people, and the Constitution that we're sworn to uphold and defend, must," Boehner, a Catholic, said. "The House will approach this matter fairly and deliberately through regular order and appropriate legislative channels."
The Republican establishment is preparing to make the 2012 election about religion. With the economy being the top concern of most Americans, this is not going to end well.

Them challenging this decision means that republicans are going to make the entire 2012 election about religion?

The Republican establishment makes their campaigns about religion regardless of what year it is. In 2008, they made it about Obama's religion. In 2004, they made it about gay marriage. In 2000, they made it about family values. In 1998, they made the congress elections about Clinton's infidelity and how it went against Christian values. The list just keeps on going on how and what issues the religious right has chosen to make almost every important election about.

Would say your premise is a bit of a stretch. At least at this point in time. The GOP is contesting a controversial bill being forwarded by Obama.

Your contention that this action equates to "making the 2012 election about religion" is quite a leap, eh....??

Am going to go out on a limb and suggest that you seem to view the world through very filtered lenses...

Disagree all you want, it's a fact that Republicans will make any election about religion to pander to their largest group: "The (protestant) silent majority".

What, fighting illegal dictates from the boy king is a bad move politically? Should they be trying to out borrow and spend money we don't have with Obama to show they "care" about people?
Climate, changes. It takes a particularly uneducated population to buy into the idea that it's their fault climate is changing and further political solutions can fix it.

Not a stretch when we have some on the right here saying Obama is attacking Catholics. Again, they are making it about religion.

They won't have to. Obama is going to back off this.
