I know it sounds crazy, but why not creat private sector friendly policies that enduce job creation by the private sector?

I think this program is for the very serious cases or incidents of veterans that are unable to find work. I saw a segment on 60 Minutes about homeless veterans. Extreme PTSD is something I am very ignorant about, but as I understand it, the homeless veterans can only function on a military base. Assimilating to civilian life is increasingly more difficult, and not to mention the emotions that are tacked on when you aren't working.

These men and women had bullets flown at them, seen their brothers and sisters blown apart, and heard men and women scream and agony. Yeah they are trained for it, and yes they prepare for it, but everyone's experiences are different.

This is what I am talking about. We bitch and complain about how much money we are spending on veterans!? Are you guys human? Some of you guys are the most selfish bastards I have ever witnessed. These people deserve our help.

If you've noticed, a lot of us here ARE veterans. As I stated in my previous post, the Army's budget has increased 5 fold in the past 10 years. More money is not the solution to this.

Very few of those folks are going to even show up for these jobs. Epescially, after they find out their going to be operating a shovel all day.

Emotional Ploy to get votes. Veterans, and I am one that has benefited from this, have resources to find jobs. Looks good on the Campaign trail, looks good on a bumper sticker, but is otherwise redundant and frankly crass use of the Military for political gain.
Climate, changes. It takes a particularly uneducated population to buy into the idea that it's their fault climate is changing and further political solutions can fix it.

The lid is off the jar, baby...its election time! Yes!!!
    Nah...

They won't tax anyone (except the rich, if they can). They'll just increase the debt.

    It's a stupid, vote-getting ploy.

Heck, if he were really serious, why doesn't he put them to work "rebuilding our infrastructure"? Seems that would be more useful than beautifying parks.

No, you misunderstand my complaint. $1 Million on the vets and $900 Million on government workers to "adminster" the program is nuts.

A program with veterans working together in an environment where they are not witnessing death and dodging bullets might be a good thing for those who need help assimilating back into civilian life. Veteran halfway houses have proven to be helpful to vets with PTSD - this program might provide similar community dynamics.

BTW, I agree that $1B for 20,000 jobs is too much.

And some of us have 'been there', done that, and work with vets daily. No one is suggesting there shouldnt be adequate support for vets. Is that REALLY what you are reading? I ask again...why just 20,00 vets? Why not promise jobs to ALL vets for the rest of their lives? And who is going to pay for it? Would you SERIOUSLY be behind this proposal if it was offered by a republican president? Hey...dont get me wrong...LOVE the newfound respect for veterans and vet affairs.
