I see more people buying that than apples and oranges. . . hence why congress and state governments have woken up and realized what's going on.

People abuse the privilidge and freedom given so it gets taken away.
It is often human nature to percieve the bad in things more than the good. So i've got to ask, how many times did you miss all the people that are being responsible?

If you see people buying cigs then the store that you are going to is obviously not following the law. As such, report em. As for energy drinks, so what? Some people do need those in order to complete the day. I buy energy drinks every time I work a graveyard shift or stayed up all night due to kids and still need to make it through the day...does that make me a bad person? Why should a person that is on foodstamps be any different?

People always condemn those that are on foodstamps or some type of federal assistance, always assuming that they are lazy bums. Never knowing what thier actual circumstances are. For all they know that person could be working 3 jobs and need energy drinks to finish the day. For all they know that one time of buying crawfish might have been a one in a year spluge (possibly due to a birthday for all you know)

Do people abuse the system? Of course they do. That too is human nature. But there is no need to thow the baby out with the bath water. Report those people/businesses that allow people on foodstamps to buy crap like cigarette's and beer. Report those people that buy drugs via welfare money. Lobby to make changes in the market in order to bring down the prices of healthy foods and raise the prices on things like chips and pop. (because I can guaruntee you that those that are poor will buy the cheapest things over that of which is healthy every single time) Fix the system that enables those on foodstamps to buy crap. Don't punish those people on welfare just because they take advantage of something that is available to them. Because I'm 99% certain that if you were in thier shoes you would do the same thing. If you don't believe this then obviously you believe that those that are rich don't take advantage of anything....right?

Edit: With the exception of the first line the word "you" is being used generally and is not directed at any one person.

If people want to eat a filet mignon they are free to, they just have to pay for it with their money, not the money the government gives them.
If you need help paying for food, and someone tells you what kind of food you can buy with the assistance they give you, they're telling you what you can eat.

Just for reference, means my post was a giant steaming pile of sarcasm.

House bans welfare recipients' money from strip clubs, liquor stores - Political Hotsheet - CBS News
The House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a bill that prohibits welfare recipients from using their government subsidy in strip clubs, liquor stores and casinos.
The measure easily received the necessary support of two-thirds of House members, with 395 voting in favor and only 27 opposing.
It make much more sense to directly wire the money, and its great they are banning the use of the governments money at strip clubs and liquor stores. If somebody doesnt have their own money to get drunk then they shouldnt.

It all comes to the most efficient usage of the money.
Buying $3 energy drinks isn't the most efficient way to use funds limited for food.

Normally, I'd be cool with some slack in regards to small splurges, but you give an inch and they take a mile.
I was discovering that life just simply isn't fair and bask in the unsung glory of knowing that each obstacle overcome along the way only adds to the satisfaction in the end. Nothing great, after all, was ever accomplished by anyone sulking in his or her misery.

If a person is working and uses his money to buy an energy drink it is one thing. A person who is getting free money for food to help get them nutrition they need and instead is choosing to blow it on energy drinks is a completely different thing.

Having an energy drink,or smoking, or going to a strip club ect is not in itself bad. But using money that I give you to feed your kids on it is.. There is a difference

Don't know about here in Oregon, but SNAP in Wyoming doesn't allow you to purchase energy drinks.

Frustrating, because mega-doses of B vitamins helped control the sedation from my mood stabilizers and the taurine made me less reliant on the benzodiazepenes.

Here are the current regulations: Eligible Food Items
    Energy Drinks
When considering the eligibility of energy drinks, and other branded products, the primary determinant is the type of product label chosen by the manufacturer to conform to Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines:

Energy drinks that have a nutrition facts label are eligible foods

Energy drinks that have a supplement facts label are classified by the FDA as supplements, and are therefore not eligible

In Oregon it should be against the law not to buy beer with welfare and food stamps. Oregon craft beers are the staff of live.

The GOP has certainly tackled some of our biggest problems since they swept into power in 2010:

*Passed legislation to help restrict abortions for rape and incest.

*Cut off funding for pubic radio.

*And bans welfare recipients money from strip clubs, liquor stores.

Impressive!!! Now that they have addressed the countries biggest problems, they can get back to the business of further reducing taxes for the rich and increasing military spending.
