Oakland police arresting about 100 protesters

Oh, ha-ha... I get it. Soros is to OWS as the Koch bros were to TeaParty....

Yeah, real funny... The way you just made up something you wished were true so you could make a valid point...

I won't even bother to point out you failed to included links or proof, because I know none exist.

:failpail::failpail:

Yes, because we know these people, who can't garner enough self-motivation to get up before noon and take a bath, let alone apply for a job, are financing and organizing these protests.

Pillars of the community, those OWS folks, eh?

The goal of the protest was to occupy a publically owned abandoned building and turn it into a community center. It turned violent when the police shot tear gass and rubber bullets into the crowd.

The burning of the American flag, while regrettable, has nothing to do with Occupy as a whole. It was, however, a direct response to police brutality and it's quite clear, by reading some of the replies of this thread, that conservatives and liberals alike feel they have the moral highground over the protesters, yet they allow the government to kill in the name of that flag. How hypocritical.

Oh please....How many OWS protesters have been been "killed by the government, in the name of the flag"? Oh, and gas is spelled with one 's'....

Do you have anything else to add to that convoluted post?

Any other noise about how the OWS is blameless and the police are the boogeymen?

That's not their building. Too bad, so sad. Just because you say, "oooh! I want it" and then run off to claim it, doesn't mean your decision has any legitimacy.

They generally have a moral high ground over the protesters because they aren't causing public disturbances, diverting vital police resources, and destroying public or private property.

Yea and all of the Occupy groups are in solidarity with Oakland and Oakland showed not to protest but to steal property that did not belong to them. Not only that but they showed up like this with weapons.

Yes those mighty shields laced with Peace signs. What amazing weapons against the riot police guns and flash bang grenades.

You guys are hilarious.

Did you watch the video in the OP? You did notice that they were trying to use strategy and were throwing stuff at the police right? I wonder what the cops would do if any group of people dressed the same way through stuff at cops used shields and tried to advance on the cops? Do you really see this as acceptable behavior for people that say that they are peaceful? And dont gloss over the fact that they were not even protesting they were trying to illegally obtain a building, and even wrote it down on the signs that they were carrying that they were going to brake the law.

Where does this behavior end? Whats next ? are they going to start taking over other peoples houses?
And dont ignore the shield with the A on it. WHat happened too 'oh it was the Black Blocs not everyone'?
#SolidaritySunday with Oakland Marches in NYC and Across the US; Bank of Ideas Being Evicted in London | OccupyWallSt.org As of 8pm EST, actions are currently happening or planned in response to extreme police violence used against Occupy Oakland yesterday in New York City, Boston, Toronto, Vancouver, Melbourne, Oslo, Philadelphia, DC, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, Portland, Tampa, Indianapolis, New Haven, Orlando, Jackson, Des Moines, Hollywood, Baltimore, Portland ME, Tulsa, Denver, St. Louis, Eugene, Nashville, and Detroit. We have also received word that the Bank of Ideas in London is being raided!
All of those groups listed are confirmed supporters of Black Bloc techniques. So much for peaceful gathers. It would seem that the peaceful method did not work so now the movement is moving into the world of violence against property. How long until it progresses to violence against Americans? I suspect as soon as the property violence method fails they will next target people they deemed as the enemy.

Us anti-occupiers were correct about the move to property damage so you might want to listen to us now.

The pigs ****ing deserve it.

The best defense is a good offense.

Where does this behavior end? Whats next ? are they going to start taking over other peoples houses?

Occupy has been occupying foreclosed properties all over the country for months now, many times successfully.

SO whats your point? That its all ok behavior? Move along?

My point is that your moral indignation is silly when it sides with the most violent institution in Oakland.

It doesnt matter how violent the police are, it doesnt change the social responsibility of the citizens. People cant just decide that they own a building, then try to move in. We all know that the people that we are talking about are Anarchists. These Anarchists are engaged in what they believe to be an revolt. Their tactics clearly shows the world that they are trying to create. And the only way that they could succeed is to take the same route that the south did except that these Anarchists are an extreme minority in California. So what they are betting on is convincing enough useful idiots to riot so that Oakland becomes under martial law so that they can say see I told you it was a police state. The purpose of the solidarity with all of the other occupiers is to cause a nation wide martial law situation.

Its an old model that they have been working on for decades. ANd they are naive enought to think that it will work now because of the protests that swept the middle east and northern Africa.

Look at these photos these are not just regular Americans wanting justice, these are Anarchists wanting to cause Anarchy.

It doesnt matter

Of course it does. It makes you a hypocrite.

You clearly know nothing about anarchism.

The purpose of the solidarity with all of the other occupiers is to cause a nation wide martial law situation.

They don't need to cause one. The US is already a police state.

Of course it does. It makes you a hypocrite.
Two wrongs do not make a right.

You clearly know nothing about anarchism.
Oh great not only are Communists the only ones granted the knowledge of their ideology, Anarchist are just as special.

In other words I haven't drunk the Kool-Aid so I couldnt possibly have a clue.

Police state
[From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia]
A police state is one in which the government exercises rigid and repressive controls over the social, economic and political life of the population. A police state typically exhibits elements of totalitarianism and social control, and there is usually little or no distinction between the law and the exercise of political power by the executive.
The inhabitants of a police state experience restrictions on their mobility, and on their freedom to express or communicate political or other views, which are subject to police monitoring or enforcement. Political control may be exerted by means of a secret police force which operates outside the boundaries normally imposed by a constitutional state.[3]

I guess then you are insisting that we should all revolt? Are you revolting ?

I dont' think black bloc anarchists consider themselves as representatives of the 99%...

No, you just really actually have no idea what you're talking about.

Not sure why you quoted this.

You do know what solidarity means right? All of the occupy groups are in solidarity with Oakland's Black Blocs. And wasnt it the occupy movement that said that they ere the 99%? Sorry but that is the reality and its provable if you want me to rub it in.

This doesn't make any sense.
Why am I not surprised that this makes no sense to you? If someone (anyone) does something wrong, it does not give someone else the right to do the same thing wrong to someone else. Come on its basic ethics.

No, you just really actually have no idea what you're talking about.
Well of course you are trying to discredit me sense I am showing that your ideology sucks.

Not sure why you quoted this.
To contrast your claim with reality. You claimed that we live in a police state. I can easily disprove your claim by typing here in this forum. I can disprove your claim by hoping in a car and going for a drive across state lines. I can also disprove your claim by standing on a street corner holding a sign. Or I could just point to the millions of people that do these things everyday. In fact the biggest proof is that the occupy movement has enjoyed widespread media coverage. And even more the government has allowed the protests to continue even letting the protesters break laws that they have a history of not allowing to be broken. Which has forced the protesters to push hard to get the reactions from the police and government that they were seeking. Thats why the occupiers are supporting the black bloc tactic when before they denounced it mostly. In case you didnt know the black blocs are not really a group per se. It is a tactic.

Except it makes no sense because your comments fall on the side of the cops which is what makes you a hypocrite.

All states allow speech to a certain extent. This means nothing.

First I want to say hi! I am new to Debate Politics but not new to political forums. I am glad to be here and contribute to the discussions.

This article is about the OWS which I am not a fan of but found that the clash between the police and protesters have stepped up. I noticed the protesters are far bolder than before with throwing rocks and items and making shields. Makes me wonder how far it will eventually go.

Welcome to the Forum! I would guess it depends a lot on how the policies change that have so negatively affected the working class over the last 30 years.

I'm on the side of the OWS protesters, but I do feel like they went overboard in Oakland. They knew that was a reactionary police force and probably wanted to create a Media event. Nevertheless, the OWS influence on the US body politic is undeniable and that is a positive influence, therefore I can give them a little slack. I read that they arrested 400 protesters. That makes 23,000,400 prisoners in the USA. That would be the highest number per capita in the world. Those dope smokers and protesters are a real threat to world peace and National stability. The protests are against the overriding influence of the 1%, saying we don't want our Nation or World run at the whims of the 1%. By the 1%, for the 1%, and screw the 99%. It's time for business that creates jobs and labor profits instead of business that moves paper and creates paper profits. It ain't rocket science, ya think?

Most of those arrested were released without charge because the cops couldn't prove they did anything wrong.

It's ridiculous because the OPD does the exact same thing that the cops did back in the 60's they declare an illegal assembly and order the crowd to disperse but then they kettle the protesters in and don't allow them to leave. That, in my opinion, is just asking for violence. It's easy to blame the protesters, but I think the mayor of Oakland and the OPD need to take a good hard look in the mirror before passing judgement on them.

The cops still have nothing to do with it. Just because I am opposed to the little Anarchists and their black bloc tactics does not automatically make me on some side. Instead you are just accusing me, when you really have no damn clue about me much less who i support. In other words keep your straw man argument to yourself Sherlock.

All states allow speech to a certain extent. This means nothing.
Prove to me that America is a police state then. what is your evidence?

And the Anarchists brought shields and weapons because they are just innocent people right?
