Gingrich pledges moon colony during presidency

I'd say it's as legit as 99% of any campaign promise.
 
If Ron Paul or any candidate that didn't appear to be a corporate shill promised this maybe I would give a f***. For some unknown reason im sure a peaceful world government hinges on hardcore space colonization. Once we can live in outer space forever then many of the embers of war will eventually die out. Except for war via diehard trickery + stupid people. I cant shake this feeling Gingrich is worse that Obama or Bush. His smile gives me the skeevies.

He would opt to send an ant colony to the moon and redact it so that the news will say "________ SPACE COLONY _______ ___________ MOON." All thought that is giving the Executive of the US a bit too much credit. As if he (Executive spot) isnt just a smiling outlet for corporations that frowns from time to time.
 
Romney and Santorum actually did a pretty good job at broadsiding Newt over this last night. Every state he visits, he talks about some extravagant project in each one.

Not nearly as extravagent as Romney will be supporting the Obamacare plan. You don't really believe he'll repeal it do you? That program will likely end up costing as much as a trip to Vulcan.

We should do the Vulcan thing then because they have better technology, including medical technology. The health care bill wont be necessary anymore!

Its possible.....but just for a sec think about, the importance of establishing a moon colony (regardless if its Newt, Obama, left, right or whatever)

I know it's far off but bear with me..Whichever political entity controls the moon, potentially has an unbeatable weapon

Has anyone read Heinlein's The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. In the book, hydroponically grown wheat is shipped from the moon to earth. Bear in mind, the energy expenditure from the moon to the earth is much less than earth to moon. Cargo is launched from the moon with an electromagnetic catapult. When the colony gets pissed off and revolts, they bomb earth, particularly Cheyenne Mountain, with rocks. You simply cut out a large rock, slap a steel band around it for the magnet to grab. Gravity does the rest and it hits the earth at 10/12 km/s, releasing energy comparable to a small nuke.

And that my friends, is one of the fears of moon colonization. Hmmm...What if the Chinese get there first????

One of the great drives man has (there are several) is to see what is beyond the next horizon.... forces that develop our technology

The human race is ****ed unless we develop the capability to either (A) live in space in self-sustaining, spinning stations, and/or (B) find an earth-like planet within reasonable distance to colonize.

Oh btw.....Did you read about, the asteroid barely missing earth? Whew! That was pretty close :lol:​
 
If I thought he could actually make it happen, that would just about be reason enough to vote for him.

Don't feel bad, many people have trouble grasping the basics of orbital mechanics, or imagining things outside their own limited experience.

I have read every story Heinlein ever wrote. He was a great writer, but he was also a bit of a racist. You can see it in "Farnham's Freehold". Seems that a lot of sci-fi writers are racist. Larry Niven cowrote Lucifer's hammer, in which a comet strikes Earth. Black Americans become cannibals in that one. LOL.

I would vote for him if there was even an inkling of a chance he could make it happen. It's a pretty bold and audacious statement though! I wonder who will fall for it?

What in the flying **** has that got to do with anything?

Heinlein, as a product of his time, was probably far LESS racist than most of his peers.... Niven/Pournelle wrote Lucifer's Hammer in the late 70's or early 80's, a time when people openly worried about "race-war" in the US with dead seriousness.... you can't judge these people out of context. Sci-Fi writers are no more racist than any other class of author.

Hell we could have colonized the moon and mars with all of the money wasted in bailouts over the last 4 years. It would have been money a lot better spent. People would have more work than they imagine instead of imagining what it would be like to work...
 
can a Newt support please justify the feasibility of his desire for a sound commodity backed monetary policy and his desire to colonize the moon in 8 years?

Red and blue both support redistribution. They both let banks funnel from taxpayers via distribution of magical money that has the same worth as normal money from taxpayers future. They both cater to shifting money power from commoners into the hands of elites.

Shooting himself in the foot is what Newt is good at. Self-restraint, not so much.

This diarrhea of the the mouth thing is what got Gingrich in trouble when he was Speaker.
 
all I know is that for a trillion we have floated a couple hundred rich billionares to keep on flying around to their exotic vacation resorts. At a couple billion per space shuttle, would have built a fleet of 500 of those, or perhaps built dozens of moon launch vehicles and had easily colonized either the moon or mars. Instead we are left with economic ****. Yeah, face value Newt sounds ridiculous... but I'd personely have added millions to the workforce and gotten something outta it then what we got, and that is even ewithout realistic government spending which would have doubled the number... ok just double my 1st number... or perhaps fix pretty much all the rest of our earthly problems.... change a couple hunded billionaires can believe in....
