Truly, an amazing group of people...worthy of the term Hero. This is the type of action we should be taking to thwart terrorism, not invading countries.

Couldn't help yourself could you? Had to tie the Buchanan rescue to terrorism. Patheic.

But your response, here, is completely on target. LOL - why this snarkey response?

They were taken hostage because of an act of terrorism (piracy is a form of terrorism)

Our Seals are used in all such situations - their training readies them for a wide variety of missions. Saving hostages one day and picking off a leach the other. It's all interconnected and I see no problem with his comment which is directed towards both functions and he has a point.

We're obviously not incapable of functioning on a smaller more covert scale for seemingly daunting and massive missions.

Great job by a bunch of amazing men. I've had the honor of meeting several SEALs and former SEALs over the years and they are truly the cream of the crop when it comes to what they do. Very glad they all came home in one piece.

On the other hand, I am TOTALLY against using US Military personnel to go rescuing American (and especially foreign) civilians who are too stupid to stay out of harms way. Somalia is NOT a tourist destination or a safe place for Westerners to work. I would have to bet the US State Department probably suggests AGAINST US citizens traveling there for any reason. This woman chose to ignore that basic common sense. They should have let her rot.

I believe they invaded Somalia to pull off this rescue.

Because his response had nothing to do with the SEALS' accomplishment. BTW, I know who they are; no explanation needed. They did a good job, and we should leave it at that.

No - by strict classification terms it's different (per the military). An invasion is in regard to liberating or controlling a territory on a long-term and widespread scale.

You didn't comment about it god, yes let's not talk about anything else, here.

I see nothing wrong with discussing our overall military strategy when our military does something good. That's like suggesting we don't talk about general business practices when a business in general donates money to a charity. Are we on a debate forum of what?

Anyway - obviously I think they did a great job and obviously I don't see the reason to cap the conversation at that. I will point out that Buchanan wasn't the only one rescued - Thisted was rescued to . . . sexism and ageism in action. (there - a jab at the media who was slanted at the writing of their article title to omit him)

To invade a place, means that place has to be a place.

And since Somalia is not a country IMHO, it has no real national boundries and no claim to sovereignty.

Places like Puntland and Somaliland can make a case for it, but not general Somalia.
