NAVY SEALS night-time raid

What he didn't like was my honest announcement that if a child of mine chose to go against my wishes, I'd abandon them to their own devices.
Paternal love conditional on obedience. Hmm. That's revealing.

In all fairness Hazl, isn't that how you view conservatism too? I know that's how it often appears to me.

Conservatism used to be pragmatic government, thoughtful cutting of waste, and protecting Americans at home and abroad. Conservatives used to abide the law of the land and outcomes of elections. Acceptance and respect for the process. (e.g. if a man is elected president he gets to appoint federal judges, short of corruption or major qualification issues, this used to be a straightforward process.)

When legislature passes a bill that creates a needed financial services regulatory and consumer protection body, blocking the appointment of someone to run that body for TWO YEARS is not conservatism, it's radicalism. Just because you didn't vote for a bill that passed, it is still the law of the land. Respect the process.

Anyway, sorry for the mini-rant.

True, dat. Double true.

I feel sorry for your children, if you have any. Because that statement, IMO, reveals an almost sociopathic concept of parenting.

I think you have to go a long way back to see that. Perhaps it's different with American conservatives. The one's I remember growing up in the UK always seemed to be the typical class warriors for the bourgeoisie, plutocracy and aristocracy - just as they appear to be today.

In other words, you don't have any significant response to what I'm supposedly "missing" in all of this. You just can't believe that anyone would actually expect American citizens to understand that once they leave the safety and comfort of the United States that they should not expect the US Military to come riding to their rescue the moment they get themselves in trouble simply because they're US Citizens. Sorry, that's not what the US Military was intended to be used for.

Protect Americans at home and abroad?

Then who should we send, the Maricopa county Sheriff's Department?

I don't believe a word of it Tigger__Oh, I'm sure you believe this as you speak but most likely your conviction has never been put to the test.

True love, especially the kind a parent has for their children, doesn't come to a screeching halt simply because they disobey or disappoint you.

When they look up at you with those big sad baby blues/greens/browns and say "daddy, I'm sorry" your heart will melt like a soft-serve in July.

Protect Americans at home and abroad?

No. To protect the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Just as the police do not have a requirement to protect or defend an individual citizen from harm, the job of the US Military is to protect the COUNTRY, not the population individually.

Then who should we send, the Maricopa county Sheriff's Department?

Nobody. These people have chosen to move beyond the reach of the legal and societal boundaries of the United States and therefore are on their own so far as I'm concerned.

Sour grapes because you can't afford to travel abroad?

Just wondering...

What does that have to do with the fact the military shouldn't be used to bail out civilians who knowingly go to countries hostile to Americans?Would you go to Iran,Somalia, North Korea or some other country hostile to Americans?Anyone with common sense would know to avoid those places. Amazing how you like to resort to lies instead of actually debating the issue. I am surprised you didn't pull out the race card.

I'm going to reply to these two comments on the tangent, then let's get back to the topic at hand. If anyone wishes to comment on this tangent from here on, please reply via PM.

I do not have any children, nor do I ever have the intention of having any children.

No my conviction has never been tested and likely never will be. Remember that I am not a big believer in Love; neither romantic nor familial as the basis for any form or relationship. Laws, Ideology, and Order are what I base my life on. If my heart were able to be melted by a pair of sad eyes and an apology I'd be a Liberal, not a Conservative.

This gives a different spin on the third line of your signature tune below your posts. You sound like such a lot of fun, fun, fun, fun, fun.

Sixty posts on this thread and 26 of them are either from or about Tigger and his skewed view of the world. What about the Navy Seals??

Good grief!

There is nothing skewed about thinking that if a civilian leaves the safety of the US and goes to a country hostile to Americans then that civilian should be on their own.

some fruity, crunch, missionary/humanitarian type...

What does 'crunch' mean.

Nice to know that honesty is now portrayed as vileness and despicability.

What does the honesty of a statement have to do with its base moral value. Sure, honesty is fundamental but it doesn't make things better. There are plenty of vile things that remain so even if honestly proclaimed. It's not some kind of a shield against moral/ethical judgement.

The people you hate (which is most people) could dispel all of that rage with a simple "just bein' honest"?

Yeah, but Maggie, we know the Navy Seals are badass, they're named after a fearsome natural predator after all. I just want a little recognition for the Chuck Norris-some President who gave the order...

Once she decided to leave the United States she would no longer have been my daughter, so it wouldn't have made any difference to me. In my mind Conservatism is not a compassionate ideal. It's based on Right and Wrong, a Black v White concept, not compassion.

nice to know you would deny your own daughter for pursuing her own dreams. perhaps the fates are trying to tell you something with your lack of success with the opposite sex.

so you too, would deny your own daughter? i'm quite surprised james.

Okay fine, let's talk about the Bush war strategy and how we shouldn't have gone into Afghanistan. Please step up and rehash that for me. I haven't heard about it enough, I need a refresher. Go ahead the floor is yours.........

No - the mindless mantra is that we shouldn't have gone into Iraq - instead - we should have gone into Afghanistan.

My god man, get it right :D

I have no interest in having children and I've never wanted them. They're the ultimate STD so far as I'm concerned. They rob your bank account, your time, your energy, and in modern American society there is almost no way to keep them in line. WAY too much hassle for very little return.

And one of them could grow up to be a gay Navy Seal.

Nothing in the term pro-life has anything to do with rescuing civilian dumb-asses who go to countries hostile to Americans.
Gee and here I thought that pro-life meant all life and that people who sacrifice so others can have a better life are noble. As it turns out you too are part of that hypocrisy tiger is. Only fetal life matters since that requires nothing from you to sacrifice.

The only thing pro-life has to do with is the opposition to legal abortion.
Hence your hypocrisy.

Amazing how no one jumps on a pro-abortionist for being a hypocrite for supporting infringements on the 2nd amendment in a 2nd amendment thread.
Please spare me your inane diversion and for the record I am a gun owner and defender of the second.

lol - is that what you did to your parents!

:D

Where do you live in a cave or some la la land, because sure as **** you have no clue about anything in the real world?

God bless them and keep them safe. They and "some others" are unmatched and we owe them more gratitude than we can ever repay.

I think they are doing a good job and should continue. I do wonder though why the SEALs seem to be in the news so much lately, they aren't our only special operations group.
