NAVY SEALS night-time raid

Truly, an amazing group of people...worthy of the term Hero. This is the type of action we should be taking to thwart terrorism, not invading countries.

Couldn't help yourself could you? Had to tie the Buchanan rescue to terrorism. Patheic.

But your response, here, is completely on target. LOL - why this snarkey response? :D

They were taken hostage because of an act of terrorism (piracy is a form of terrorism)

Our Seals are used in all such situations - their training readies them for a wide variety of missions. Saving hostages one day and picking off a leach the other. It's all interconnected and I see no problem with his comment which is directed towards both functions and he has a point.

We're obviously not incapable of functioning on a smaller more covert scale for seemingly daunting and massive missions.

Great job by a bunch of amazing men. I've had the honor of meeting several SEALs and former SEALs over the years and they are truly the cream of the crop when it comes to what they do. Very glad they all came home in one piece.

On the other hand, I am TOTALLY against using US Military personnel to go rescuing American (and especially foreign) civilians who are too stupid to stay out of harms way. Somalia is NOT a tourist destination or a safe place for Westerners to work. I would have to bet the US State Department probably suggests AGAINST US citizens traveling there for any reason. This woman chose to ignore that basic common sense. They should have let her rot.

I believe they invaded Somalia to pull off this rescue.

Because his response had nothing to do with the SEALS' accomplishment. BTW, I know who they are; no explanation needed. They did a good job, and we should leave it at that.

No - by strict classification terms it's different (per the military). An invasion is in regard to liberating or controlling a territory on a long-term and widespread scale.

You didn't comment about it  god, yes let's not talk about anything else, here.

I see nothing wrong with discussing our overall military strategy when our military does something good. That's like suggesting we don't talk about general business practices when a business in general donates money to a charity. Are we on a debate forum of what?

Anyway - obviously I think they did a great job and obviously I don't see the reason to cap the conversation at that. I will point out that Buchanan wasn't the only one rescued - Thisted was rescued to . . . sexism and ageism in action. (there - a jab at the media who was slanted at the writing of their article title to omit him)

To invade a place, means that place has to be a place.

And since Somalia is not a country IMHO, it has no real national boundries and no claim to sovereignty.

Places like Puntland and Somaliland can make a case for it, but not general Somalia.

One just has to love the hypocrisy of your so called pro-life position.

Great job Seals.
This rescue should give food for thought to those who think they can get away with (fill in ........the blank).
Never know when they come.

I don't have a Pro-Life position. I have an Anti-Abortion position, and it has no bearing whatsoever on this thread.

Let's see here...Somali pirates kidnap a couple, and we should call that....what?

I take it from your response to my complimenting our military personnel that you either support the pirates and so do not consider what they were doing an act of terror, or you are one of the people who thrive on confrontation...either way your reply deserves no respect, and has received none.

Tigger - unlike some other oafs who wandered into harm's way on purpose only to (no surprise) get caught and need saving . . . these people didn't go TO somalia on a 'sight seeing' tour . . . they were assigned there and doing a job.

I believe Somalia's national territory begins where those of its neighbors end, failed state or no. But we're really playing a game of semantics here.

I know why they were there. I also know she chose to leave the United States, take a job with a Danish company and then to accept a position in Somalia for that company. She should have known the risks, and therefore took the chances herself. It is not the duty of the US Military to go and retreive every American Citizen too ****ing stupid to stay where they belong and not get themselves in trouble.

It is really bogus that you got that he doesn't support our military.

Hit the nail on the head.

Nope, they "Invaded" a terrorist stronghold...in a country. We had no interaction at all with the Gov't.

We would lose our minds if Cuba came over to steal back Elián González inside our borders. Crossing the borders of another country with your military without its permission is the definition of invasion.

I dunno why but I kinda laughed at that image.

At least, as far as we know, no one was sodimized with a knife during this mission. We should put in a FIA request just to make sure.

That's a good point. But aren't we invaded every day, sanctioned by profiting foreign Govs?
Not to spin too far off course, but we seem to be more capable of protecting other nations than we are our own.
