Strongest solar storm since 2005 hitting Earth
Comments WASHINGTON (AP)
"The sun is bombarding Earth with radiation from the biggest solar storm in more than six years with more to come from the fast-moving eruption."

Dunno - it hasn't brought down communications, television signals or caused wide spread electrical outages. So far, it's transparent to most everyone I'd suspect....

Somehow I suspect we'll be ok. No reason to go all alarmist on us.

Hello! it's 2012, or didn't you see the John Cusack movie '2012'?!

(uh-oh__im starting to sound like those al gore nutsos)

I'm hoping to see the northern lights from this.

what's the best time to look for northern lights?

i might be too far south, but maybe not.

All the way from Churchill Downs? That would be a serious light-show.

They said we could probably see them last Saturday night, but it was cloudy so I was out of luck.

I know that my smart phone, and home internet connection were a little slow yesterday, and today....It may be the solar storm, or maybe I should just pay the bills.....;)

Fox news said a military GPS satelite might be at risk.

I believe these solar flares are suppose to be going on for quite awhile.

Well, that ought to make my CB reception better...I know the lack of flares lately has really made reception, and broadcast suffer.

I'm not worried, I can fly a small, twin-engine aircraft. Those can easily escape worldwide destruction.

Oh, well if Fox News said so...

More accurately, the flare could cause disruption of the navigation signals. The satellites themselves will survive, and once the disruption fades things should work fine.

I think.

Oops, I should have looked into the section instead of using the search and bringing up old threads. Sorry. :3oops:

So far, I think I can feel it already and my router acts strange too. :2razz:

Unless the runway drops out from under your landing gear before you reach takeoff speed.

Oh, stop your whining. :baby2 One news channel comes along that doesn't coddle you little lefties, and you cry like a hungry baby with a dirty diaper.

Hmmm?__Apparently "2012" wasn't as convincing as "An Inconvenient Truth"__ha-ha, just kidding. ;)

All of my DirecTV HD local channels went out yesterday evening. Not sure if the flare had anything to do with it, but it's never happened before.

You still believe in Mayan mythology? Have you been a practicing Mayan all your life, or just when you heard about their calendar in the news?

No need to get so defensive about your alarmism. I wasn't trying to hurt your feelings, sorry.

Ha-Ha, I was just being silly, Deucy__You know me__No apology necessary. :peace

I heard that the Aurora was supposed to be visible from quite a few northern states, due to the solar storm. I hope somebody gets to enjoy that. Of course, we have the usual rain and cloud cover going on here. Drat!

Kickass.........................
