Wash. has enough votes to legalize gay marriage

Wash. has enough votes to legalize gay marriage - Yahoo! News

As lawmakers held their first public hearing on legalizing same-sex marriage, a previously undecided Democratic senator on Monday announced her support for the measure, all but ensuring that Washington will become the seventh state to allow gay and lesbian couples to get married.

The announcement by Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen, D-Camano Island, that she would cast the 25th and deciding vote in favor of the issue came as hundreds of people filled the Capitol to advocate for and against gay marriage.
It looks like SSM is going to be legal in most or all the country sooner rather than later. The momentum is increasing.

Considering there's no legal basis to prevent it at all... It's only a matter of time.

Now if DOMA can just be dismantled, there would be real progress.

The freedom and equal treatment of gays under the law is the freedom of us all, we cannot be seperated.

We shall win this fight, and be on the right side of history.

Good. Another one on the way off the list. Many more states to go.

I don't have a problem with gays entering into civil unions. Let them enjoy buying a house for someone they can no longer stand and join us heteros in the misery.

There will be more lesbian/gays who, after some reflection, decided that no pussy/dick was worth signing over most of what they worked for

Good. California has enough votes to pass SSM, too. At least we did until the anti-gay religious movement flooded the airwaves with tv lies warning that if SSM was legal, under the law teachers from kindergarten up would be forced to teach kids in detail about the "homosexual lifestyle."

There are some things that shouldn't be legal, even in a damned election.

Why not marriage? Why is that right specially reserved for you?

Yes and no. Seven states banned slavery by 1799. When a state like Missouri or Virginia passes gay marriage I'll be more encouraged.

I don't mean to be a Debbie-downer though. This is great news.
