    In a nutshell lol

Conservatives have generally been opposed to gay rights as homosexuality has been seen as a choice. Because marriage is seen by religious people as a sacrament with God, there has been opposition to allowing equal marriages between gays because most religions classify homosexual behavior as a sin.

    Legal marriage =/= religious marriage.

And even if it was, what of religious gay people? Should their religious freedom be compromised? What religion should be used to dictate how legal marriage runs?

Seriously, this argument lacks any sort of logic.

A belief which is not in line with the scientific evidence.

Because marriage is seen by religious people as a sacrament with God,
Marriage as a RELIGIOUS institution is a sacrament with God. As a legal and civil institution? Those don't really apply. Or else atheists would not be able to marry.

there has been opposition to allowing equal marriages between gays because most religions classify homosexual behavior as a sin.
You're entitled to your own religious beliefs, but if other people want to sin, that is their business and not yours, and it doesn't justify using government as a tool to impose your personal beliefs on others who don't share them.

Yes, I know that various religious texts oppose homosexuality. But a true believer in "small government" would admit that his personal disapproval of homosexuality is not sufficient grounds to deny a right to others. I mean, I personally think peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are gross, but under no circumstances would I suggest you not be allowed to eat one.

If Christian beliefs can become law of the land, so can Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, or Scientologist. I'm gonna go ahead and suggest it stay as "none of the above."

*If* homosexuality is a choice or not??....but I do know I have been told by many, many homosexuals that if it is proven to be genetic, they do not support a search for a cure.

If it actually existed, Hell would freeze over before any of the bible belt states pass gay marriage legislation.

I would say that homosexuality being a choice is entirely irrelevant to whether same-sex marriage should be legal. Practically everything we do as a species is a choice. Everything on the bill of rights is a choice. They're still rights.

If there wasn't a choice in the matter, it wouldn't be a right at all. It would just be Things Humans Do.

It looks like SSM is going to be legal in most or all the country sooner rather than later. The momentum is increasing.
Once Obama gets re-elected, he'll come out against homophobia the way JFK did on segregation.

Skin color is genetic. If you were black, would you support a cure for blackness? Or would you find that offensive?

Luckily our constitution calls for separation of church and state.

Therefore your beliefs and mythologies have no business at the marriage license window at city hall.
