I find it amazing how so many people these days look for a reason to be offended. Its another reason why this country is going down the toilet. People use being offended as a weapon to rage against their own failures lack of success
That's true (on both ends of the political spectrum) but it has ****all to do with this situation. Tell me you wouldn't be somewhat pissed if your kids came home from school with, say, a Koran, or a Satanic bible that had been passed out to them on school grounds. The issue isn't being offended, the issue is the First Amendment.
The problem is the Pagan parent attempted to pass out Pagan literature to students. She was stopped. But Bibles are OK.
Would you be upset if your child came home with literature that was in direct opposition to something you passionately believe - like pro-choice or pro-life literature, literature from a hate group, etc.
Schools have no business attempting to influence children toward a particular belief system - that is the parents' right and responsibility.
The OP's article says that interested students were allowed to pick up Bibles: "The Gideons International had delivered several boxes of the sacred books to the school office. The staff allowed interested students to stop by and pick them up."
I maintain that this is not the same as the school's handing the Bibles out. Sounds to me as if the students had a choice and could have not stopped by and picked the Bibles up. If there was no pressure and the decision was voluntary, how different is this than stopping by the library and checking out a Bible or whatever?
Bibles distributed to public school students?
People who wants their religion promoted in public schools, almost always Christians, should be careful what they hope for. You have to also allow witch's spell books and the Quran to be equally promoted.
Ginger Strivelli, who practices Witchcraft, a form of Paganism, said she was upset when her 12-year-old son [who did not wish to be photographed for this article] came home from North Windy Ridge intermediate school with a Bible.

The Gideons International had delivered several boxes of the sacred books to the school office. The staff allowed interested students to stop by and pick them up.
The question would be: Has the school allowed local Muslim elders from the mosque drop off boxes of the Quran and allow the students to pick those up as well?
the real reason why she's mad:
Only Muslims are supposed to touch the Quran, so it's unlikely Muslims even tried to make it available for the infidels to defile.
Schools are not the place to distribute religious materials. That is the job of the parent. Furthermore, the parent is responsible to teach their child morality and judgment. Not the school. When a parent sends their child to school, they should know that they are going to be exposed to a certain curriculum. If that curriculum does not include religious study, then there is absolutely no reason for the distribution of religious materials at that school. To do so is undermining the parents authority and their plan to raise their child. It doesn’t take a village, it takes a family.
Bad example... actually... the Torah is similar..... uh... boxes of Buddhist sutra's?
What's the problem? He came home with a bible?
So you have no problem with government-run schools indoctrinating our children with religion?
(Not that it matters, since the Constitution says you can't anyway).
I'm about to give up and just start trolling.
Leaving books available for students to pick up on their whim is not indoctrination.
Buddhists aren't known for their evangelical efforts, they pretty much keep it in their temple and their home.
It's note worthy to point out that this angry woman only brought wiccan material to the school in response to being outraged, whereas the Gideons have a centuries long history of passing out free bibles to whomever is interested. Her bringing material to the school was not a bona fied effort to make information about witchcraft available, it wasn't an honest effort to display her religion on equal footing. Her intent was simply to stir the pot.
This lady needs to just chill.

A box in the office that says "free bibles" is indoctrination?
Where was any kid being indoctrinated again?
Actually this is also a part of a schools job. Why do you think that kids are punished at school for not doing homework? For fighting? For bullying? For purposely breaking things? etc etc.
A child's teachings about morality and making good judgement calls should never just stop because they are not around thier parents. That would just lead the kid to think that it is ok to do something bad any time that they want as long as thier parents are not around.
