State Rep. Kip Smith charged with DUI in Buckhead

Republican state Rep. Kip Smith was arrested early Friday morning in Buckhead and charged with DUI, according to an Atlanta police report obtained by Channel 2 Action News.
What makes this newsworthy? How about the fact that it was Kip Smith who has been pushing for all welfare recipients in Georgia to be drug tested. You know, I have a better idea. How about drug testing all legislators in Georgia, as a condition for them to keep their jobs? If it is fair to test welfare recipients, then it is only fair that those who made that law be subject to the same law.

    Article is here.

Drinking isn't illegal. Not that the bigger issue isn't valid. He is still being paid with taxpayers money and breaking the law.

His positions are irrelevant for me though. Those who create the laws should be held to a very uncompromising standard when they break them.

Not to state the obvious, but drinking and driving is illegal.

So, it seems to me that if substance abuse disqualifies one from government aid, it should also disqualify one from government service. I'm sure the Kipper will be resigning shortly.

In Arizona we just had a powerful state senator on trial for violation of ethics after he was arrested for being stopped in the middle of a state freeway late at night, pulling his girlfriend from the car and beating the hell out of her as traffic passed by. When arrested the GOP senator claimed legislative immunity because the legislature was in session. Meanwhile, his girlfriend was arrested and manned off to the station where she sat for something like 18 hours before they let her go, without charges.

Turns out the state senator was a real slime ball and had a prior occurrence with his ex-wife during their honeymoon in Hawaii. She fled the hotel, hocked her diamond to bu y a one way ticket and caught the next thing smoking to Florida. She got the marriage annulled.

Seems to be a common experience among these family values people.

After withering testimony from a cast of thousands who witness the incident, including an off duty police officer, the state senator resigned his seat before the testimony could go further.

Drug testing him would have come back negative. (as far as we know).

Yeah and he was born to wealth and privilege. He took the Georgia House seat vacated by his daddy who became the Director of Transportation. The system will make certain the 27 year old state representative skates as lightly as possible.
