A ship that is partially submerged like this is pretty easy to plug up the fuel vents and remove the fuel. Doesn't happen fast but the urgency is pretty mild. The vents are likely equipped with ball valves which are pretty solid method for keeping them watertight as long as it the vessel doesn't sink increasing the outside pressure as you pass through atmospheric layers the deeper you go.

Amazing stories of survival emerge from cruise ship crash victims | The Upshot - Yahoo! News

RIP Francis. (read story about husband giving his 60 year old wife the only life vest they had). She made it to shore (she can't swim) and he stayed behind and has not been found.

Here's a new report. It says that the captain is claimed he tripped and fell into a life boat. Is it just me or does that not sound very likely?

I don't know if this is the same link, but no. It's not just you. He "tripped and just happened to land in a lifeboat and that's how he wound up in one". Um hm

Under the files of you can't make this **** up:

Survivors of the cruise ship are reporting that the song playing in the restaurant as the ship was going down was Celine Dion's Titanic hit, "My Heart Will Go On."
No men are anywhere, and Im allowed to go in, because Im the owner of the pageant and therefore Im inspecting it, Trump said... Is everyone OK? You know, theyre standing there with no clothes. Is everybody OK? And you see these incredible looking women, and so I sort of get away with things like that.

Thank god Celine Dion is Canadian, otherwise a certain DP poster would burst back into the thread again claiming American conspiracy to slander the poor captain.
