Columbia, SC (AP, WLTX) -- The director of South Carolina's Department of Motor Vehicles has told the State Law Enforcement Division that more than 900 people who were recorded as having voted were actually dead.DMV Director Kevin Shwedo told legislators about the issue Wednesday as the U.S. Justice Department questions a new state law requiring people to show photographic identification when they vote in person.In response, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson asked SLED to review the evidence.​

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Video footage provided exclusively to The Daily Caller shows election workers in New Hampshire giving out ballots in the names of dead voters at multiple voting precincts during the state’s primary election on Tuesday.The bombshell video is the work of conservative filmmaker James O’Keefe and his organization, Project Veritas.Voters in the Granite State are not required to present identification to vote. O’Keefe’s investigators were able to obtain ballots under the names of dead voters at polling locations Tuesday by simply asking for them, he said.“Live free or die,” an election worker told one of the investigators in the video. “This is New Hampshire. No ID needed.”

Couldn't this problem be solved by simply crosschecking the list of registered voters against a list of recently deceased person just before an election? I'd rather eliminate incompetence in the administration of voting than place a new burden on one of our most fundamental rights. I believe that is also the conservative response to all civil rights issues that don't primarily effect Democrats.
 
The voter ID idea is really, really simple and straight forward. The reasons for being against it are highly suspect.

Who else didn't find this 'sting operation' to be extremely CREEPY as hell.

Just how did he learn these people were deceased - and what district they were voting in? And how did he creep into a voting-arena with a camera hidden away.

I'm more disturbed at his actions than the fact that states don't get everything 100% when it comes to cross references death-reports with voter-registration. Only 900 . . . doesn't seem quite so bad, honestly.

Was this even legal - can you pretend to be someone (dead or alive) for any reason at all like this? Sounds like a federal offense to me.

Knowing O'Keefe it would not surprise me in the least if it was. He's been caught before faking videos via deceptive editing.

I see more jail time in Mr. O'Keefe's future (obtaining ballots under false pretenses).

I wonder how many he found overall?
 
You know, I'm a lot more concerned about citizens being denied their right to vote than some clerical errors that allow dead people's votes to be counted. Please note that these erroneous votes can and are easily found and corrected. No such correction exists when someone's voice has been silenced.

I'll see whatever tantrum you throw about dead voters, and raise you plenty of live ones who have had their fundamental rights taken away.

I'll call your "denied the right to vote for not having a bank account with enough activity". Dood wasnt denied anything...he showed his account to a part time employee who asked...questioned as per policy...and then accepted, and moved him on to the next station. Then the woman...obviously there with an axe to grind...questioned all of the workers on state policies regarding the 'free' option (even though the kid wasnt charged for the ID) and then questioned them on state policy on how long it took to get ID-a lot of 'why's' asked of employees who have no hand in establishing procedure. In other words...the 9 minute video (which you either mistakenly or intentionally misrepresented as proof of something that happened when in fact it didnt happen) was shot by a larger douchebag than O'Keefe. Its AMAZING how readily some people embrace douchebags...when it is THEIR douchebags...

SC can't require voters to have IDs, but funny how it's okay for the TSA to keep poor blacks off of airplanes, by requiring IDs. That technically makes Obama a racist hypocrite. It's his Justice Department and his TSA. When those poor blacks from South Carolina want to get on the airplane, the TSA gets to block their travel. Show me how this isn't true. You can't have it both ways.

BOTH of the others were clearly deceptively edited, so until the raw footage surfaces, and the people who obtained the false registrations are prosecuted, ima go with...prolly fake.

So you're just glossing over the answers to her questions, then. Those guys she talked to are very clearly explaining the procedures to get these ID cards, and she is rightfully pointing out how many different situations that a person who otherwise can lawfully vote would be unable to because of these procedures and the law requiring ID cards. No, of course no one expects them to change it. No one claims they have a hand in crafting the rules. But their answers demonstrate quite clearly that the requirements for ID cards prevent a lot of lawful voters from voting. I'm sorry if this video was too complex for you to understand more than just the story of this kid and his mom getting him an ID card.

Did he or did he not get the card? Did they or did they not explain the procedures and in fact explain how a homeless person could get their card? Did her own video or did it note show 5 different types of basic identification that could be used to procure a free ID card and did or did not the individual GET the free ID card? In case you didnt bother to watch it before you posted it...yes...they did get the free voter ID.

When will you start believing that anything from O'Keffe is automatically suspect? Hasn't he fooled you enough times for you to start doubting anything put out with his stamp of approval?

In any case, 900 out of millions of voting Americans is still not enough to actually have a significant impact on 99% of our nations elections. Much to do about nothing... again.
 
I don't have a problem with just requiring a valid photo ID to vote. However, I have a HUGE problem with some of the proposed laws that have requirements that go way beyond that which are designed to suppress the vote in certain sections of the population. That is just unacceptable.
 
What is this? Chicago? Naw, in Chicago they don't get questioned for doing this.

What are you talking about? First of all, poor black people aren't the only ones affected by ID laws. Second, the price of an airplane ticket is probably going to disqualify a poor person before not having an ID does. Third, flying is not a fundamental right. Fourth, the public interest in safety is implicated to a much greater degree in the case of individuals hijacking airplanes, which has happened dozens of times throughout history, than it is by a fraudulent election, which has only happened once and was achieved by Republican manipulation of the results, not by voter fraud. Fifth, the TSA can waive the ID requirement if it is satisfied you are not a threat (I know, because they waived it for me once when I forgot my photo ID). Sixth, the 9th Circuit has held that you can still fly provided you agree to undergo more stringent screening. All of which goes to demonstrate that the situations are completely different.

in highlighting the non-problem of voter fraud in New Hampshire and elsewhere, O’Keefe’s agents appear to have committed voter fraud themselves. Section 659:34 of the New Hampshire code defines voter fraud as when a person (highlights are ours):


(a) When registering to vote; when obtaining an official ballot; or when casting a vote by official ballot, makes a false material statement regarding his or her qualifications as a voter to an election officer or submits a voter registration form, and election day registration affidavit, a qualified voter affidavit, a domicile affidavit, or an absentee registration affidavit containing false material information regarding his or her qualifications as a voter;

(b) Votes more than once for any office or measure;
(c) Applies for a ballot in a name other than his or her own;
(d) Applies for a ballot in his or her own name after he or she has voted once;
(e) Votes for any office or measure at an election if such person is not qualified to vote as provided in RSA 654; or
(f) Gives a false name or answer if under examination as to his or her qualifications as a voter before the supervisors of the checklist or moderator.

In addition, O’Keefe’s group may have run afoul of New Hampshire’s law against hidden recording devices. Granite State law requires both parties to consent when recording devices are used, a fact that even O’Keefe’s own website notes. However, the video gives no indication that poll workers were aware they were being filmed.
