I believe in the death penalty for crimes of murder. How is a trial and execution murder? Are you against the death penalty?

Sure, but for all we know he's heading the project or a large competitor and this could set them back.

I want to be clear...I do not support the assasination but it is an assasination. I don't agree with using the term terrorism because it's not correct....and assasinating someone is just as bad! there's no reason to confuse the issue. The US should not be assasinating people.

Wonder if this means that the poor fella being held in Iran is more likely to be executed now. Seems like this is bad timing for him.

For we are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies primarily on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence--on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice, on guerrillas by night instead of armies by day. It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly knit, highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations. Its preparations are concealed, not published. Its mistakes are buried, not headlined. Its dissenters are silenced, not praised. No expenditure is questioned, no rumor is printed, no secret is revealed. It conducts the Cold War, in short, with a war-time discipline no democracy would ever hope or wish to match.

If he is a spy then Iran should execute him, just as any country should do if they catch a spy within their borders. If he is some dumb ass just at the wrong time and place then hopefully this teaches other Americans to stay the **** away from countries hostile to Americans.

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

Typical Iranian SOP to acquire a hostage or two.

The sentence against the American, Amir Mirzaei Hekmati, 28, a former Marine, was likely to become a new point of contention, and possible bargaining leverage, in Iran’s struggle against the West over its nuclear program. The court’s order suggested that Iran was willing to go to new lengths to increase its leverage in dealing with what it views as American-led hostility over the nuclear program, which Iran says is for peaceful purposes but the United States, the European Union and Israel regard as a cloak to attain a nuclear weapon.

I suspect "career nuclear scientist" will not be a sufficient criterion.

Who they are working for may possibly be an additional qualification.

Sorry not buying it. Just because they only targeted 1 person doesnt mean its not terrorism. Its terrorism. If it wasnt some crazy that killed him because he was crazy and was instead a plot hatched by CIA its terrorism.

When governments act outside the law and in violation of international treaties and borders, they call it "covert".

See, this is what I'm talking about. A nice, peaceful way of ending Iran's nuclear program. Good policy Murica. Rescue some fishermen, kill a nuclear scientist. Our military is the greatest in the world!!!! The question is, how many fishermen equal one nuclear scientist? Hopefully our human credit broke even with that.
