Re: Gay marriage a threat to humanity's future: Pope

    According to that article he said this;

Pope Benedict said Monday that gay marriage was one of several threats to the traditional family that undermined "the future of humanity itself."
That is a little different than simply saying it is going to end humanity on its own.

TPD references two interesting quotes from the Pope, but I feel they'd be lost on many who do not fully appreciate the Catholic position. There is a whole tradition to Catholic social thought which stretches back to the Schoolmen, Fathers and beyond.

The talk about moving the Church backwards and alienating more Catholics misunderstands the fundamental nature of Catholicism. It is not a democracy and it is meant to preserve the basic and fundamental traditions of Christ's Church. If you think it can accommodate homosexuality or abortion or fornication then you do not understand the Roman Church. It would care nothing for humility in its mission either, it sees itself as the mystical body of Christ who is its head. To disparage itself as a body is to disparage Christ. You also would not understand the Orthodox either, I'm a high Church Anglican but I'm basically Orthodox these days and I care not a jot what members of the Church, bowing under the pressure to conform to modern ideas, think. At one word from the Scriptures, Fathers or Councils such vain opinion fades like the morning mist before the Sun.

We do not sell indulgences all that much, because we haven't had much of a playboy since Giovanni Medici.
To be honest I think many silly Protestants could do with paying more attention to the Pope these days.

So the Vatican doesn't like gay marriage. What else is new?
    Why do we fall?
So we can learn to pick ourselves up.

    That i can agree with.

On a side note to Reuters.Com, please refrain from putting me in positions where I have to choose between discarding my intellectual honesty and defending the Pope, you know I will choose to keep my intellectual honesty every time and I dont like defending the Pope, he has Catholics for that.

Simply put. Is it wise to take moralistic advice from the world's most notorious and unrepentant pedophile enabler ?

    Moral equity.....the pope has none.
Ignorance is the refuge of faith
It's become very apparent that there is nothing respectable about faith

And in other breaking news, the sun rises in the east and sets in the west.

This is nothing new and I wouldn't expect anything else from the Pope.

I do find it ironic that they talk about gay marriage destroying the sanctity of marriage in a country where 50% of all heterosexual marriages end in divorce.

Considering the Catholic Church's stance that the point of marriage is to bear children, this isn't surprising.

Got to agree with Jerry. This thread is just a big circle jerk. "Want to join my club where same sex marriage is not allowed? No? OK. Find your own club then."
