I remember a lot reports while he was in the White House. Here's one article that was widely referenced at the time:

    America: A fearsome foursome - FT.com

He was also reported to have specific conflicts with Axelrod and Holder.

The whole Rahm thing seems to me as if a hockey team went out and hired a tough enforcer who likes to mix it up but then tells him to be a finesse player and keep out of the penalty box.
It does look that way, but it's always difficult to tell what's really going on in the White House.

Not sure why this would be a big deal. It seems most white house chiefs of staffs resign after a year or two.

Big deal? Well, that is a matter of opinion. But, at the start of a re election campaign, it doesn't look good. Remember Gingrich? Why should everyone count him as dead in the water, while dismissing Obama's problem with his staff?

    it's a big deal
leo panetta screwed the pooch when he was clinton's chief of staff
the white house was in constant chaos and embarrassing leaks to the media were daily events
the president was accessible to everyone under panetta's time there, leaving little opportunity to actually be an effective president
Clinton's presidency was not effective until panetta was gone
same panetta who has since ****ed up the CIA and has now been given the opportunity to screw up the department of defense
this points to one of Obama's biggest failures; he has a terrible eye for talent
we are negotiating about dividing a pizza and in the meantime israel is eating it
once you're over the hill you begin to pick up speed
