Probe reveals feds pressuring agents to rush immigrant visas even if fraud is feared

Re: Probe reveals feds pressuring agents to rush immigrant visas even if fraud is fe

I frankly don't care how many the Bush admin approved. We still need reform and tighter control on immigration despite what anybody did before. I complained about it when Bush was in office and I am still complainging about it. All this look what Bush did is a weak argument.

i won't argue with that
but what i will argue with is those who castigate Obama for his poor performance when the data reveals his appointees are accruing better results

Re: Probe reveals feds pressuring agents to rush immigrant visas even if fraud is fe

awful, isn't it, that the agency under the Obama administration is screening out MORE undesirable immigrant prospects so they are not allowed in country
why in the world would he improve that federal agency's success rate like that

Smartie...if he wanted to do it right he would follow federal guidelines to the letter, but that would upset his (needed) Mexican vote.

i've been hoping this reply would be posted
now show us the guidelines which were not followed
bet you can't/won't do it ...

The Thugocracy continues.

what i would say is the facts indicate the Obama administration is actually approving a smaller percentage of applicants than was true of its predecessor regime
that would indicate to me (who believes 90% is more than 86%) that the Obama administration is being MORE restrictive than the political appointees enforcing immigration laws during the dicknbush regime
now, it may be a valid argument that that the Obama administration is not yet being sufficiently restrictive/thorough ... but the reality is that the OP's premise that the Obama administration is being more lax than before in the processing of these immigration applications is patently untrue

but i did enjoy the laugh provided by the OP hoist by his own petard

Is the best that Obama supporters can do is to continually compare Obama to Bush?

I thought I was clear in that I was concerned in the manner in which the current administration was pushing for these applications being approved, even if they don't merit approval...But that's ok because Obama's numbers are different than Bush's....

But you started the thread attempting to implicate the Obama Administration on approving VISAs when the data clearly shows there were fewer VISAs approved under Obama during the time period reviewed compared to the GWBush Administration. How is citing information contained in the very report YOU linked to a purposeful "blame Bush" fallback? You may not have mentioned GWBush at any time in your posts, but his Administration is certainly a part of the report you posted. As such, one can't adequately prove or disprove your "Thugocracy" claim without digging into the report and pointing out the facts between both Administrations where the reported information is concerned.

Take your lumps and accept the fact that you've been undone here.

The Messiah is taking lessons from Bush? :lamo

These were the same tactics used during the Clinton Administration...

The incoming administration carries forward using policies from the previous administration and the pundit either claim "victory for the old guard" since the old standards are in place OR when more is achieved under the new administration they claim "see what our guy wroth and your guy benefitted from?" It's the same old, tired :spin: and gamesmanship dusted off by the GOP from years back. Only fools pay much heed to it though.

Re: Probe reveals feds pressuring agents to rush immigrant visas even if fraud is fe

let's see the point you were feebly trying to make within the OP:

notice that it was YOU who was making the comparison between the results of the Obama administration and the dicknbush regime
problem - at least for you - is that the cite you provided documented for anyone who can do basic math that the Obama administration is actually doing a better job ferreting out undesirable prospective immigrants than its predecessor regime accomplished
proving the exact opposite of what your OP intended
thanks again for the laugh
The only thing feeble here is you trying to make points with us about Bush. Every conservative on this board complained about how Bush didn't do enough at the border all through his administration. So comparing Obama to Bush buys you nothing around here.

whatever it bought it documented how the premise stated within the OP was stupid

Is there any kind of ceiling on immigration? I mean for how long will we let people in before we have too many poor aliens to take care of? Perhaps a responsible admittance would be logical...you can come in to live if you have enough savings to float you for 6 months, otherwise, sorry. hard nosed...sure, but we are currently supporting way too many aliens here, and I mean supporting.

switzerland will allow you to immigrate if you are able to document ownership of at least one million dollars (cash) net worth
is that the standard you are seeking to emulate?

would make the INS decision making much easier

If one assumes the pool of applicants has been of consistent quality with regard to admissibility issues, then perhaps you are correct.

This cannot be assumed, however.

Furthermore, no data is provided for the tenure of the new director whose motto is, allegedly, "get to yes" other than a two month period at the beginning of his appointment in August 2009 that is included in the October 2008 - October 2009 data set. Once cannot use that figure as an assessment of how many refusals were issued between then and December 2011 (and how that figure relates to past trends) when this story was published.

That said, I question the thoroughness of this article because it repeatedly talks about immigrant visas being rubber-stamped and then quotes an immigration attorney who gripes about the speed of approval for business visas, which are non-immigrant (visitor) visas. I don't know who didn't know what they were talking about, but I suspect it was the reporter being sloppy and meaning all visa types were subject to this alleged pressure to approve, not just immigrant visas.

Immigrants must be sponsored by a closely-related US citizen or lawful permanent resident, or US employer (except diversity visas). In all three of these types of immigrant visas, an affidavit of support by the petitioner is required to show they can support the benificiary if required, and is legally responsible for them financially for a period of at least five years. Diversity visas are more lax but still require proof by the applicant that they can work when they immigrate.

There is a ceiling on the number of immigrants annually. These numerical limits are applied to countries of origin individually, so the wait time for benificiaries immigrating from Mexico or the Philippines can be more than a decade (depending on the status of the petitioner and their relationship to the benificiary), while a Swiss citizen receives an immigrant visa much faster.

We already have provisions for such a case. The fifth preference category of employment-based immigrant visas involves investing in a US company at least half a million dollars and creating at least ten full-time jobs in the US.

So, if you get yourself $500,000 and an investment opportunity, you too can become a permanent resident in the United States.
