2 abortion providers charged with murder in Md.

Freedom doesn't mean we are free to do what we want to do, but rather be free to do what we ought to do. Don't misunderstand freedom!

Free to do what we ought to do according to whom?

Are we all sure we know what anarchy is? It seems to have been misused in a few recent posts as a synonym for tyranny.

In the United States, the term "anarchy" typically is meant to refer to a society without a publicly enforced government or violently enforced political authority. When used in this sense, anarchy may or may not be intended to imply political disorder or lawlessness within a society.

Outside of the US, and by most individuals that self-identify as anarchists, it implies a system of governance, mostly theoretical at a nation state level although there are a few successful historical examples, that goes to lengths to avoid the use of coercion, violence, force and authority, while still producing a productive and desirable society.

Who gets to decide what we ought to do?

mpg: You can't impose liberty on anyone. If you're looking for a contradiction in terms, impose and liberty would be a good one.

When the government protects your liberty by passing laws that protect you from me, and then enforces those laws with the use of force, they're imposing your liberty on me. Libertarians support this, but anarchists oppose it. Abortion laws are a classic example of this.

As I said, in traditional conservative philosophy it is according to human nature and the arguments made to show what this means. Indeed, from a traditional conservative position freedom is nothing more than freedom to develop your human nature.

Protecting my liberty from you is still not imposing liberty on anyone. People can and often do choose not to be free.

and in an anarchy, no one is really free.

Because I think it's dumb to ban abortion in general not only because people are just going to end up getting them done by people who don't know what the hell they are doing (as we see in this story) and because the "rights" of a fetus should not be elevated above the rights of an adult.

It's good for us though that laws aren't based on such a narrow minded view as yours. Luckily we have enough sane rational minded people to make sure atrocities like this aren't condoned.

I thought the old adage was "Your rights end where another's begins". Abortion law follows this by stating that an unborn human being has rights.

Some state laws apply legal rights to baby in utero, such as in the case of the murder of a pregnant woman, and each state has different definitions as to when that applies( based on gestational age ). The Unborn Victims of Violence Act of 2004 applies the same logic to numerous federal level laws as well.

It sounds that there should be a place of common ground in defining these rights.

How can the government "protect our god given liberty" without doing it "by force of law"?

Abortion is legal. So, I won.

Legal is a long way from being a 'right'... Laws are repealed all the time.

That wasn't my point. He said that laws aren't based on opinion. He's wrong. They are.

Sure. But your statement that Abortion is legal, is still a long way from being a right. In fact I would say that this issue exposes the fundamental way in which liberals believe that the constitution can be end ran around when the prescribed process is too hard, or unlikey to produce the outcome they want.

"Right" is subjective. And I have no idea why you're bringing up the Constitution since it says nothing about abortion.

Sure, but in the post you quoted, I was talking about abortion in general. And like I said, it's legal.

Not only not in this case but in the eyes of the majority of people in this country and the majority of the states.

Abortion is legal in every state. Are you talking about late term abortion?

No, they are quite clear. And not decided by men.
Oh, I actually misread you. I thought you were saying abortion isn't right (as in morality), I missed the "a" before right. In any case, rights are determined by men too.

Bravo, you just made the case against Abortion.....Congratulations.

Uh...no, but okay.
