Finland 'finds Patriot missiles' on China-bound ship

No problem those going to S. Korea as they are defensive and understood why wanting it secret. But seems like reckless tracking and safeguarding. Obviously.

German officials claim it was a sale to South Korea

It is. I remember quite clearly when I was listening to MBC radio on the drive to work about 6 days ago, that Germany announced that it would sell Patriot missiles to us.
Here's my opinion, which I posted earlier:
Wait, I heard it in MBC radio that Germany signed a deal with South Korea to sell Patriot missiles.
Due to the proximity of the locations, I think it might be a mix-up.
Or not

Well, alright I'll buy that, but the OP said this, "The Finnish authorities have impounded an Isle of Man-flagged ship bound for China with undeclared missiles and explosives, officials say."

So if it was China-bound that's still very bad. Perhaps the original report is in error? Maybe it was bound for SK instead?

If the shipment was legit, why was it marked "fireworks"?

Maybe it was a legitimate shipment but sorta-accidentally-on purpose placed on the wrong ship, with a new label. Still looks like espionage doesn't it?

Yes, or perhaps arms smuggling.

if they have the ability to shoot the missiles from the ship.

No way. The patriot is strictly a surface to air missile. It won't lock onto surface targets.

I should have explained myself more

In stating that the missiles were fireworks on the manefest, the ship may have gotten lower insurance rates. I would be more concerned about pirates attacking a ship full of military weapons then of fireworks and charge more for insurance at that time. Also any port entry would be more difficult I expect with ship full of military weapons then with fireworks

Ships go to many ports, as I explained earlier in the thread. The ship can most definitely be going to both China and South Korea. It is like a truck -- it doesn't simply go from point A to point B, then back to point A -- they often go from point A to points B, C, D, E, F, G, etc, and then maybe back to point A.

Certain ports may not allow entry to ships loaded with military hardware.

Another thought is that if the ship were going to China before South Korea, that would be a problem (missiles for South Korea on the manifest), although if they were mis-declared on the manifest for that scenario, it seems rather ham-handed? Speculation is almost as useless as conspiracy theories ;)

Gotcha, I see what you're saying now. This might also be an attempt to misdirect Chinese operatives trying to obtain the missiles, since the destination is very close to China.
