2 women share 1st kiss at US Navy ship's return

I assume that you also believe that the other famous soldier kiss what simply about the sensationalization of a heterosexual kiss by a guy that happened to be in uniform....right? Let's be honest.

Yeah, that allowance of heterosexual relationships in the military was a big issue in 1945. It had nothing to do with the end of the war.

Nope I said people like you (as in people like you who think the other side is the enemy and wants to destroy America, that goes for the lefties as well that think this way). Leaving the world to other conservatives and liberals that actually want to work together.

Nice projection indeed of yourself there.

Let me address this laughable BS in terms that maybe you can understand...The "Alan Greyson" argument of The Next Era...

TheNextEra's of the world have but one things to say to people that disagree with them...."DIE".... and not only that, but "DIE QUICKLY!"...heh, heh....

Those that don't want to work together, yes I wish they would die out or change to at least want to work with the other side (that isn't likely to happen). You yourself have said you wouldn't work with the other side at all. I am willing to work with those that want to work together. You and others like you (that think the other side is the enemy) yes, I do wish would die out or change to work with the other side.

Would you say the same of your own side?

Yes, I said it in the previous post #222 of mine. America is not conservative nor is it liberal. We are a great country because we have a balance of the two. Offset the balance and we get problems. Make is so polarized that neither side is willing to work with the other and we get the congress we have now which is utterly more useless and just hurts the country.

I see alot of liberals in here arguing that this is no big deal, and that those that are even talking about the coverage of it must have some sort of problem with the act, or hinting are homophobic in some way, even with posting to the contrary. I also have seen the argument in here that this was spontaneous in some way, and that one report even compared it to the famous kiss in Time Square NY after WWII. I did find this interesting tid bit, seemingly overlooked by all in the WaPo story about it.... So the Navy Chose these people to mug for the cameras....Doesn't that bother anyone.....'Hey, look how open and progressive we are! We have lesbians!' j-mac
The raffle is SOP for a ship returning.

No, it has to do with a photo-op to push a gay agenda down our throats. It's the government becoming (again) involved in morality. And what a laugh that "gay is the chosen word for a group of people that are always whining about one thing or the other.

So the government got involved in morality by not getting involved in morality. That makes sense...

Good to hear.

Campaign rhetoric aside, this administrations goal was NEVER to unite anyone.

I mean there is more important issues other than what is most likely 2 non-military actors set there by the "media" to sell pictures/story for profit.

More important issues like how we can be so easily divided by a stupid photo, which is most likely a bogus "media" invention. The control of the media by a few super-conglomerates, the return of yellow journalism or puke-green journalism.

More important issues like the de-industrialization of America through free trade, national debt, and the destruction of culture by foreigners.

Or we can talk about 2 girls kissing. That seems so much more important.

This is nice aside from the de-industrialization of America through free trade, national debt, and the destruction of culture by foreigners talk. Why would you post that? What would you prefer we talk about?

Are you only able to concentrate on one thing at a time? Can people not read news of this AND other things at the same time?

Please only speak for yourself if you can't. Others can do more. I happen to find this an important issue as well as the debt.

Lastly, noone is forcing you to read this. So you obvisouly felt it important enough to come into a thread and take the time to type a response. That's pretty funny right there.

Really? the Navy tells you who can kiss whom first? Wow....Now that IS control.

j-mac

It is an honor because someone has to be the first off the ship. The ship MWR gets a little extra money (normally) by raffling off that privilege.

Actually one of the other people to get off the ship first is the first father of a long cruise. (The mothers would have already been off the ship at Week 20 of their pregnancy.)

j-mac

This was explained earlier in the thread. There is a raffle to determine who gets off ship first. Usually only entered by people being met by some one when getting off(ie spouse or GF/BF). It is referred to colloquially as a first kiss raffle.

The government has perverted your mind with political correctness...while the portion of your brain that succumbs to porn may enjoy it, it in itself is a degradation of nature. They will be reprimanded for that public display of affection. If they are not, then their superiors are wimps.

I guess you were dead wrong. Lol.

Yeah, I don't think they will be reprimanded for anything either. But it is in no way equal to the famous VJ day Time Square kiss either.

Whoever said it was equal to that? Newsworthy? yes. Equal? No

There was a report that did exactly that, equate the two.

j-mac

Is the report in this thread as I didn't see it. So far I haven't seen anyone equating the two. The main thing I've seen people defend is the newsworthiness of it which I believe it is. I don't think it is equal because of what the first one from WW2 represents. However, this is newsworthy in itself because gay people have previsouly been forbidden to express themselves like this in the past.

Why not? That photo wasn't exactly showing a loving sailor kissing his beloved. They didn't know each other. The sailor was kissing any and every woman there and the photographer thought that him kissing a nurse made a really good shot.

Sure, the article is here...Navy gay kiss photo echoes famous V-J Day image - Arts Post - The Washington Post

However, with the removal of DADT, this kiss is nothing special...Barred from it previously or not, the news was the repeal, not the kiss.

It's an important point in history for some. It is the first time the first kiss of a sailor on a ship/boat that just returned from a deployment was able to be between people of the same sex. The first kiss is important for many sailors and their families. I'm almost certain that a photo of the one that happened when we returned home after our 9+ month deployment was also published, at least in local papers.

I wish I could remember who wrote a rather nice essay wondering what that nurse was thinking at the time. Rather good essay.

So now we have gone from publicity stunt by the navy to not liking how a reporter frames the story. Do you have any other silly arguments to make?

The silliness is ingrained within the community that believes that this movement is akin to anything that resembles the VJ day kiss, or let's see what else have they equated to....hmmmmm, oh yeah, the civil rights movement of the 60s....
