Yeah, that doesn't make this not newsworthy.
Nobody who wins a war indulges in a bifurcated definition of victory. War is a political act; victory and defeat have meaning only in political terms. A country incapable of achieving its political objectives at an acceptable cost is losing the war, regardless of battlefield events.

Bifurcating victory (e.g. winning militarily, losing politically) is a useful salve for defeated armies. The "stab in the back" narrative helped take the sting out of failure for German generals after WWI and their American counterparts after Vietnam.

All the same, it's nonsense. To paraphrase Vince Lombardi, show me a political loser, and I'll show you a loser.

Why should that stop you? People disagree on here all the time. I personally fail to understand why one would feel the need to comment on a story that they don't consider newsworthy. I think a lot of people on here like to ruffle feathers and will comment on controversial issues because they know it will piss people off or at least get a good argument going. I just don't buy that it isn't a big deal to you, when it clearly is.

Really, it isn't, that is your own imagination playing tricks on you to believe that you can read something into someone you have never met in person. But that's ok, it speaks volumes of you doc.

Ah, so nobody does that? It's all my imagination? Well, it's good that you can speak for everyone. That speaks volumes about you as well.

You took my comment, which applied to some people and applied it to you. Nowhere did I say directly that it was you. I suspected that was what you were going for, which is why I brought it up.

then you should be more clear. If I misunderstood something feel free to explain where I am mistaken. Other than that you are just playing games now....And I accept your concession. Toodles.

And yet, you are still posting in a thread that you claim not to care about and that you consider "not newsworthy". It's a topsy turvy world.

No one is reprimanded for such a public display of affection. It is part of coming back from deployment for basically every ship in the US Navy. After about 4 months or more out to sea, the boat will have a lottery or other contest before reaching port that picks the first person off the ship who gets to go kiss their loved one first. Generally speaking, it is highly recommended that only those with someone waiting for them are putting in their names, since it is usually called the "first kiss winner". In fact, it is very likely that first person off the ship didn't kiss someone when they got off, they would get into trouble for taking that honor away from someone else.

Hell, I even kissed my husband (although he was still my fiance at the time) when he got off the plane from Iraq, still with his M-16 on his back. Even Marines loosen the "no PDA in uniform" rule when it comes to homecomings.
