8 US soldiers charged in death of fellow GI

The military does not create "touchy-feeley" people, it creates killers. It's like having a Rottweiler. The dog may never harm anyone, then all of a sudden it will maul a child. While the actions of those solders was deplorable, what else is to be expected of people prepared to die at any given moment and are wired tighter than a drum. We have trained killers, emotionless killers...it is the nature of the beast to be aggressive. Not only that, you have the hot blood of youth running through their veins. The military will take care of its own. They always have.
The military is not just a bunch of killers. Discipline and order is central to it, teamwork is also central to it. Yes they have to use lethal force at times. The proper application of force is important to.

That's the most disfunctional way to run an army that there is: blaming the actions of others on their leaders.

If it worked like that, the Army would be made up of nothing but privates.

Is this really the same person who once said:

You mean Obama is so ****ing retarded that he doesn't know what his Federal law enforcement agencies are up?

Are you saying that the officer in this scenario is so ****ing retarded he didn't know what 8 members of his unit were up to?

These 8 should be dishonorably discharged and do brig time, if even a fraction of what they're charged with... bullying, physical beatings, racial slurs, etc. ... is true. And so should the officers in charge of these men. If they knew and didn't stop it, they're guilty. If they had no clue that 8 of their men were abusing a member of their platoon to the point where he (apparently) killed himself to get away from the abuse, then they're guilty of extreme dereliction of duty causing the death of a soldier under their command.

I'm sick of officers skating and throwing underlings beneath the bus. They knew. If they didn't, they don't belong in the military because they are clearly not officer material.

The military I was in trained us to kill in order to survive. Yes, discipline is important but it does not always override youth and prejudice as well as the fact we don't know what the deceased might have done in the past to those troops. Beyond that...way beyond that, suicide is a mental disorder. Nothing is bad enough to make you take your own life. The old "sticks and stones" thing we learned s children comes to mind.

Were these 8 soldiers acting in an official manner, as was the ATF when they launched Fast and Furious?

Was the Fast and Furious operation launched by several rogue agents and now that it's been exposed, the administration is going to come down like a hammer on any wrong doing, or violations of the law?

Did the platoon leader in this case lie to Congress about what his troops were doing?

Are you starting to see the difference, here?

Can you possibly see the difference between the President of The United States and a 20-something-year-old platoon leader?

They should get the death penalty...if they are guilty.

You need to enlist! Monday morning!

this is so terribly sad.........and here's are my questions:

does the military institution breed this kind of pack behavior, and should we start to think about more in depth psychological testing and higher stanards for entrance into the military?

U.S. News - 8 US soldiers charged in death of fellow GI

and you're right, we don't know the facts. but the military does, and they've deemed this to be negligent homicide/involuntary manslaughter.

To really view this tragedy in context and draw conclusions about "should we test better?", I think we need to know what the overall murder rate in our armed services is in relation to the general population of the USA. These people are human just like the rest of us. I'd venture to guess the murder rate is lower...don't know. But without that information, it's pretty hard to draw a logical conclusion.

Did I say I had a long military career? I was merely adding my opinion and observation. I wrote chain of organization instead of chain of command to show that I do not have a military background. I am able to voice my observation and thought on this subject just as equally as you are.

Right! But, don't you think you should do so from an informed position? And, if you can't, maybe you should make fewer absolute comments on the subject?
