Can't say I am overly upset.

They have every right to be concerned, I'm concerned myself, but l'm cautiously optimistic this will resolve itself without serious incident. However unlike myself the ROK government can't afford optimism and I'm sure there are meetings going on and orders being sent out right now, to decide what to do and just in case it goes south.

    Re: Kim Jong Il Dies

I wasn't a fan of the man, but he was intelligent and he extremely skilled in the regional politics of Asia. That's no mean feat.

Very little is known about his son, but one thing is certain -- he won't be nearly as seasoned as his father, which could mean increased unpredictability in North Korea.

Increased unpredictability in a nation where so many are living on the edge of starvation on the one hand and where there is a nuclear weapon on the other is not a good thing.

We shouldn't be rejoicing over the death of Kim Jong Il. We should be hoping and praying (or whatever it is each of us does) that this doesn't destabilize North Korea further.
I'm already gearing up for Finger Vote 2014.

Just for reference, means my post was a giant steaming pile of sarcasm.

Good riddance, I hope he enjoys his eternal hell

Who knows, maybe his son might have a piece of a heart and not enact government policies that lead to the starvation of thousands of people.

I'd say the best hope for North Korea at the moment would be a smooth transfer of power to a hopefully less evil successor. Instability has too much of a chance of starting a really nasty war.

I doubt he would give up communism but maybe he would see people literally starving to death and do something about it. But meh, I'm just thinking optimistically. I doubt that will happen.
