Time Magazine's Person Of The Year Is THE PROTESTER

So why is "the protester" being the time person of the year a bad thing?

Time Magazine: Picking it's way to irrelevancy.

Yes. People taking to the streets on all continents is "irrelevant" soo irrelevant that many government have taken action against them...

clearly, those who are against The People taking the future of their society into their own hands, rather than simply allowing the rich & powerful rule the world, are unhappy with Time magazine's decision.

For The past few to several years the Person of the Year has been fairly vague. People may consider it laziness.

Whenever Time has done something in general terms, whether a group or the masses (as individuals), you will have people who argue in favor of it as endlessly as those who criticize the magazine for the choice. I fall on the side of the critics, but that doesn't mean I deny the impact of populist movements in 2010-2011 in the social/political discussion. I just find it editorially lazy.

I would think the protesters would win for group of the year or event of the year but not PERSON singular.

Makes sense. This really has been a year of protests.

This pretty much sums it up.

It's more of an irrellevant thing.

The arab revolutions, occupy movement, the overthrowing of several government because of these movements, greece protests, and now Moscow is "irrelevant"?

SEAL Team Six?

Lol. Nonsense. Killing Bin Laden did what to change the world as opposed to hundreds of protests in most major cities? Put the flag down Mellie, we're not at a Tea Party rally.

its irrelevant.....if you want it to go away.

Again, that hasn't been the complaint, Thunder. Do you recall when Person of the Year was "You" and they had a mirror so you could see "you" in there?http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1570810,00.html The justification was social media in Web 2.0. How about 2003's "The American Soldier"? 2004's "Whistleblowers". People called that a cop-out too. It was as if the board room was filled with too many disagreements and they pulled a George Lucas and said, "why not just do this and we can rationalize it by saying x, y, z."

You can keep going down the line.

Yes... It is a global movement....
People are occupying wall street across the world? The arab spring was a movement to resist legitimate oppression, this is mostly the starbucks-drinking ipod-using anti corporation crowd.

I always thought of it as in a positive light as "person of the year". Guess I was wrong, eh?

Better than what I THOUGHT it was gonna be...I thought sure they were gonna give it to Steve Jobs....which woulda pissed me off. Only thing of import HE did this year was die.
