Huge budget problems but we can't cut wasteful corn subsidies.

Heart Wrenching Emotion Driven story to further the cause for "Government to help cause no one else can!!!"

Super conservatives always say that charity, or the neighbors should help the poor, but why the hell don't they? I mean they do to an extent, but there is a reason these programs were created, because the private market just wasn't cuttin it. Oh wait, sorry, I forgot, the reason these programs were created was to make the poor dependent on the government and to make them vote democrat, RIGHTTTTT!

You'll note that they are still there despite the programs.

Yes, we can see from the cost that Government can afford to get it done too.

Do you know why child care costs so damned much? Regulations, state and federal requirements... it's a pain in the ASS to run a day care. I have a friend whose wife ran a day care for 3 years then gave it up. "It was just too hard to keep up the costs of training, licencing, following every damn regulation and oh yeah, carrying a lawyer in case little timmy stubbed his toe and momma sued."

The government could easily afford it and more, if we didn't spend all our money on stuff like oil subsidies for people who don't need it, maintaining a world wide military force, occupying whole countries. If we were allowed to actually raise taxes aka raise revenue, we wouldn't need to take deep cuts into services people actually use/need to get by on.

My point is, if they were really working, fixing the problems, the programs wouldn't be needed in the first place.

I was in a meeting a few years ago with church groups from around the area when a conservative said all of this should be mooved to charity and churches shoudl pick it up. The reaction was not pleasent. I think before we suggest that type of approach, we might want some input from chuches and charity groups who would pick up that slack.

Do you have anything sensible to say, or just rhetoric? Maybe people should plan their lives better and live within their means instead of doing whatever the **** they want and then demanding that society pick up the tab for their failures.

One could say the same about your comments.

As for child care costs, the regulation is obviously needed due to bad people that ran day cares where there was one person for 10 or more kids. Children got hurt, neglected, and abused. Maybe instead of blaming the regulations you should blame the people that ran bad day cares.

Yeah, it's not the regulators fault Day Care is so costly that hundreds of millions of dollars of Tax Payer cash is needed to help "poor people" out.

No it isn't because if people ran the day cares right to begin with instead of running them like a 3rd world country, regulations would not be needed. Again, blame the people that ran crappy day cares.

There is lots of fraud, waste, and abuse, but regulations designed to make sure children aren't abused, neglected, or hurt is not one of them.

It should not be the state that takes care of the children, it should be family or friends. Why should we pay to have someone get free daycare? Do (some of them) have a real need, probably. Do all of them have a real need? Probably not. There is fat all over the place that could be trimmed. Besides, many employers have day care centers at work.

Economic depression with lack of key subsidies to support the public is a recipe for disaster.

Guess we should have thought of that before we gave trillions of dollars to private business.

what a heartless approach towards helping children.

lol its not the children's fault their parents make bad decisions.

Maybe the half billion dollars that was pissed away on Solyndra should have been spent on this?

Or, maybe the people who spit these brats out into the world should take care of their own responsibilities?

I'm going with the latter.

AH the typical conservative rhetoric is alive and well i see. putting aside your disgusting use of vocabulary for those children, most European countries are decades ahead of us with green energy, because their governments subsidized the development and research of these technologies, and now for example, large parts of Germany's economy is green energy and its a huge asset to them. We started in that direction with Carter, and then Reagan came along and put a halt to it, unfortunately for us. So when you look at the big picture, one failure in a business like that, is not a huge loss, its such a small part of the budget, especially when you take into account military spending, oil subsidies, farm subsidies, for businesses that do not need any money at all and are making huge profits.

I'm sorry, but how are these very young & innocent children "brats"?
