From what I understand this bill gives Democrats everything they asked for (payroll tax relief

But now a move to extend the 2 percent payroll tax holiday is suddenly getting in the way, after the House passed a GOP measure to do that Tuesday packed with items the Democrats see as poison pills. Senate Democrats want to pass a 3.1 percent cut, paid for by a surtax on income above $1 million, and believe that they have overwhelming public support on their side.

    Unfortunately, that's how politics works.

What Obama should do is create a bill called the "Anti-Abortion Gay Marriage Ban Act" and put a rider on it that eliminates all farm/oil subsidies, then submit it to Congress for GOPers to vote on it, and let the fun begin

I've read every post in the thread and am trying to help you understand the point that Redress has been making:

So everything is moving forward smoothly by all parties right now, agreements being reached, even the republican governor agrees that the delay was a good move, and now congress wants to push this through over the head of the state involved. Do republicans in the house ever actually stand true to principles, or do they change them whenever politically convenient.
Perhaps eventually, you will get that the State Department and the Governor of Nebraska are in agreement with the delay until 2013 due to rerouting needed for environmental concerns, and that Congress is trying to override Nebraska's prerogative in the matter.

psssst..... the Dems have dropped their demand for a surtax on millionaires to pay for the payroll tax cut.

P.S.: I saw this at 5:00 this morning on Fox News. Maybe you should watch it more often and you would be more current. Don't quit your job yet.

Obviously not, or you would have seen the direct quote from the governor I posted from Redress's link:

“Just a few days ago, I said that the U.S. Department of State decision to undertake an “in-depth assessment of potential alternative routes” was an opportunity for a common sense solution. Today, we stand here having reached a common sense solution.”

Yep, FOXNews--the sole source of nourishment for the Conservative mind.

The only way to know if anyone has dropped his/her objection to a condition is if he/she actually votes/signs a bill in spite of that condition being missing. What a pol says is just cheap talk and has no bearing on his/her motives.

Many House Dems did not vote for it, and Obama has not yet had a change to sign or veto it. So there's no way to know if they've dropped their objection to it.

His quote is quite clear. He wanted the pipeline delayed until an agreement could be reached to move it away from western Nebraska. He also made it quite clear that they want to build the pipeline through Nebraska.

Perhaps eventually, you will get that the State Department and the Governor of Nebraska are in agreement with the delay until 2013 due to rerouting needed for environmental concerns, and that Congress is trying to override Nebraska's prerogative in the matter.
How is Congress trying to override Nebraska's prerogative when they passed the House bill this week, while TransCanada agreed to reroute the pipeline in November???? As the governor said, "Today, we stand here having reached a common sense solution.” As far as he's concerned, the problem is resolved and construction of the pipeline should begin.

    Use a little common sense.

You actually think that Fox News is the only one reporting this important news ???? Reid met with Obama and other party leaders. They knew that members of their own party wouldn't support the tax, so they caved.

Officials said Democrats were drafting a new proposal to extend the payroll tax that likely would not include the millionaires' surtax that Republicans opposed almost unanimously.

Republicans minimized the significance of the move. "They're not giving up a whole lot. The tax they wanted to implement on business owners was something that couldn't pass the House and couldn't pass the Senate," McConnell said in a CNBC interview.

Jettisoning the tax could also require Democrats to agree to politically painful savings elsewhere in the budget to replace the estimated $140 billion the tax would have raised over a decade.

No one has voted for it in the Senate because Harry Reid won't allow it to be debated or voted on.
