Iran army declines comment on MP's Hormuz exercise remarks

He might as well banged a shoe at a UN meeting.
He'll throw his shoe at an aircraft carrier.

And nicer is why we failed for the last 50 years in war. You want to win a war, you annihilate the enemy, and destroy their ability to make war. But that's not "nice", and it's "illegal".

I agree with you bud. I've seen it.

I hope Iran pulls a stunt like this.

We could defeat the Iranian navy in about 15 minutes. LOL

How about their insurgency? Maybe another 30,000 causalities later we'll lose the blood lust.

I agree that any attempt to honestly close the straits by Iran, or anyone, with the intent of blocking oil traffic needs to be met with action but lets not get too aggressive nor too hot headed before we find ourselves in another God awful mess.

Their insurgents could do nothing. Small arms and RPGs cannot close a large waterway like a strait

Then you'd know Israel can turn most of Iran into a glass parking lot if it came down to it, and they are MORE then capable of hammering the Iranians through conventional means.

Yes they could. However, if they are big enough boys and girls to start a war, they are big enough boys and girls to fight it on their own without U.S. help as well.

Have at it.

I suspect it won't be Israel that does the deed. This will NOT be the US acting on Israel's behalf. The US has a vested interest in preventing destabilizing factors - like a nuclear Iran - in the region. The ME is an oil-producing region, oil that the US depends on. The release of nukes in the region could severely affect the flow of oil. So a US attack is in the USA's interest first, and Israel's interest second.

I was talking about an invasion of their actual country, I know he was only talking about their navy, but I hate when people have a dismissive attitude towards potential enemies simply being they lack the technological advantage. So I brought up the causality figure from Iraq because I assumed he was suggesting we go that far as well by the tone I read off his post. Also even though their navy is much smaller, don't underestimate the ability of a determined and clever enemy, especially in a narrow waterway like the straits.

I see what you're saying. I don't think either the US or Israel plans an invasion of Iran. The cost in time, money, and lives would far exceed any benefit. Invading Iran would be flat out stupid.

Iran's navy is severely outmatched. They've got a lot of small missile boats and that's a point in their favor. So large ships can't just waltz in like they own the place and expect to emerge undamaged. Carrier aircraft could make short work of them. That's the workaround. "A determined and clever enemy" is always dangerous as you say, and that can work well when a small ground unit fights a larger ground unit. But in modern naval warfare technology, rather than individual bravery or guile, is the primary deciding factor. If US naval assets are deployed correctly and intelligently, the Iran navy has no hope of closing the straits.
