Protesters halt operations at some western ports

Protesters halt operations at some ports

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) – Heady with their successful attempts to block trucks and curb business at busy ports up and down the West Coast, some Occupy Wall Street protesters plan to continue their blockades and keep staging similar protests.

    /snip

"This is a joke. What are they protesting?" said Christian Vega, who sat in his truck carrying a load of recycled paper. He said the delay was costing him $600. "It only hurts me and the other drivers.

"We have jobs and families to support and feed," he said. "Most of them don't."
I think OWS is missing the target on this one. What they are doing is hurting workers, not the businesses, shareholders and 1% they are looking for. It seems more like they are after the 89%...those with jobs.

Every dollar that the workers and the busnesses lose because of these work stoppages means less tax revenue that the government will receive.

These clowns just don't get it.

I had a feeling that the OWS movement was going to lose its way. I hope they can get back on track and make a real difference where it matters.

    1. Port truckers support this action.
    2. This was the same argument against child labor laws, a minimum wage a 40 hour work week and a weekend.

Preventing people from working helps people? these people are not protesting for 40 hour work weeks, a week end or child labor laws and I seriously doubt these port truckers and whiny college kids and dirty hippies protesting are actually poor or struggling.

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

Child labor laws take away the freedom that families have to provide for themselves. 40 hour work week takes freedom away from the worker to choose to work extra hours for extra pay to support his/her family. Blah blah blah.

You're really not making any kind of argument here. OWS is screwing with the economy, with the ability of workers to earn income and pay their bills, and with the ability of consumers world wide to access products. They're hurting the people they claim to be the champions of because in their warped little minds they think it will harm the 1%. Their means of attack is ass backwards. It would be like the northern soliders killing slaves to stick it to the south.

What does that have to do with dirtbags shutting down a port? Are they protesting child labor laws, 40 hour work weeks and vacations?

No, Wall St is screwing with the economy, with the ability of workers to earn income and pay their bills and the ability of consumers world wide access to products. Wall St is hurting the people they claim to be the champions of because in their greedy little world, it will benefit their portfolios. Their actions are destructive and corrupt.
