If by 'they' you mean liberal progressives that seek to lower all boats in the name of 'fairness' then you may be on to something. However, if you are just blowing snark, hoping to troll, then I'll keep reading for something substantive. thanks.

I really wish conservatives would quit throwing around terms like class warfare, it just makes them look completely ignorant. Obama is a capitalist, he is not a socialist, he not Lenin, and he is not waging some war on behalf of the proletariat. He isn't even as left as FDR, hell he isn't even to the left of Bill Clinton.

Good point. Hell, Eisenhower was more of a leftist than Obama,seeing as how he taxed the rich at over 90%.

Which is why based upon his actual actions people realize the speech is nothing but political rhetoric.

You're right that "fair" is not in our consitution. That is why we have a progressive tax system. Thereefore, when the rich get taxed more, you and others should not complain because "fair" is not in our consitution.

Actually, the fact that word fair is not in our constitution is not the reason we have a progressive tax system.

The second thought you have is that I am against taxation when clearly I am not. I am for taxes so that our country can have a military and facilitate trade. What I am against is taxing people so that you can just spend the money on programs that should not be supported at the federal level. Raising the capital gains tax in order to redistribute the wealth doesn't work for me either. Furthermore, anytime they reduced the capital gains tax, that specific tax brought more revenue in. That is to include when Clinton lowered it from 28% to 20%, and when Bush lowered it from 20% to 15%.

Taxing for the sake of redistributing the wealth of the country is wrong. Don't raise taxes on the wealthy so that you can give it to other people in the name of fairness.

There was no rhetoric, it was a centrist speech by a centrist. In an earlier time, it could have been made by a Republican.

People are still buying this American dream crap? I thought we moved past that after the 60's and 70's.

Hmmm... on second thought, maybe we should make a new law that requires government to install white picket fences on the property of anyone who wants it.

Maybe we should stop talking rhetoric and pretending like we don't know what the source of our economic problems are. Obama knows them, so does the rest of Congress. As long as we keep pretending that economic depression is not happening, or that hardships are due to the reasons constantly outlined in these vague, amorphous political speeches, our country is going to continue going down the tubes.

Maybe I should stay in Canada. It's colder but the government isn't as obtuse.
