I have an office in chelsea. I ride a fixed gear past zucotti park when i go into town from the wtc path station.

I've spoken to several. There are few that can coherently express thier ideal. Often tho they were not in sync with each other.

The general feel though was a that of a phish concert.

I find that msm is sugar coating the reality.

Btw. Is this the same general council that didnt want rapes reported?

you have my sympathies for being a new yorker and being exposed to that. fortunately, most other city's occupations are not dominated by the mentality that dominated zucchini park. perhaps now that that has been dispersed, the more focused and less dysfunctional, needy people will be able to express themselves there like they have in my native chicago and here in austin.

i'm also seeing some very positive reports coming from boulder, erie and rochester. most of the press attention has been on the big homeless encampments in places like LA, NY and boston. that is not the heart of the occupy movement and dispersing them will by no means end the protests.

when i looked at the scene in zucchini park, i was reminded of shakedown street at a grateful dead show.

Yes! Exactly! I was dragged to a phish concert in a fl swamp on the millenium. 400k drugged out hippies. And me.

I know a fish concert when I see one.

Look i am more than sympathetic to the outrage over the banks and moreso the governments actions which have gone hand in hand with this mess. I just wont join a left wing movement to express my distaste. And I cant smoke weed cause it puts me to sleep. Literally. Lol.

I was all for adbusters origional plan for #ows to force the government to create a comission to stop this bank madness, but that was coopted by dubious causes of the far left.

I've been to austin, its no bellweather city as its like texas sf.

The problem is, that even if you get the more intellectuals speaking at #ows the media wont care.

Oh and my biggest issue with zucotti besides the reluctance to report crimes and the hypocritical exlcusion of the homeless, was that mcdonalds and srarbucks all saw sales increases. All the mom and pop bodegas, and eateries saw a drop.

    Ironic.

I've seen zucotti park numerous times, it is a far left hippy drum circle of dubious causes. in fact when asked who momar quadaffi was 1 in 5 knew, 1 in 10 thought he was the falafel cart at the SW corner.

They pay lip service to government responsibility., that's where they fail.
That has not been my experience of the OWS movement.

that's new york. i love austin. it's conservatively progressive and cares about it's environment. because it's a river town, they've left huge swaths of old growth because it holds the ground down when there are floods. my arts are very well received here and i make better money busking on the street here than many club musicians make.

we patronize independent restaurants and stores here. maybe their scarcity downtown has something to do with it, but why go to starbucks six blocks away when austin java is in the city hall building?

i'm one of the indie music and arts festival folks who have been advocating this sort of non-violent action for the past 40 years. i don't trust moveon, adbusters or michael moore and i think they're just piggy-backing on something the late ben masel started last winter in wisconsin over their budget dispute.

I wanted so much to hate austin, but I must confess, the dirty liberals there, tended to be much smarter, and pragmatic than the ones I deal with around here., maybe its the bit o texas in em? Anyway, I enjoy anytime I am in austin, (don't tell anyone). The music clubs, were great.

I respect that. I abhor chains. from my meat, to produce, to fish, to anything, its always local, and fresh. I did note that about austin, the chains weren't as infiltrated, like santa fe. and that's a good thing. The thing is in NY, its much harder to get to a starbucks than it is to a bodega, yet they sought out the familiar.

Olive garden, is an "italian themed" resturaunt.

I totally respect that. Like .I said, (was it this thread) I am down with adbusters #ows call. I think the movement has been co-opted the way the tea party has been co-opted by selfish motives, and disjointed views. I for example defend the tea party, but to me Palin is no tea party I want part of.

I'll take a look this weekend. You'll find my commentary is quite cynical on #ows, however I am open to it's anti-government policy stances, I think its misguided on targeting the banks,
